I will be going in for my free fuel filter next week. While I was making my appointment I asked the service writer about my steering issues. I explained how I was very dissatisfied with their fix the last time I was in.(lube job) I ripped him a new one telling him how I couldn't believe they could call that a fix, when they darn well knew they had a real problem on their hands. Well after I finished yelling, he said they now are replacing the steering shaft for this problem. He went on to say that because of the back log of steering shafts on order, the word from GM was to run the lube fix until they got caught back up. Well thats great! How about a phone call! He said it wasn't their policy to call customers back when the real fix came in. When this steering rattle is fixed I will never go back to this service dealer.

Yup. Real crappy.

Possible solution.
Make the complaint about your steering. Have them order the part. The parts dept. (per GM policy) will send you a notice advising you of the arrival of the part ordered for your truck.

If they do not allow you to do it this way, report them to GM C/S. It's my guess, if you do this, they (your dealer) will be calling you shortly. It just so happens they were able to locate the part, afterall.

You want grease? You gotta squeak a little.

I should mention that they are doing this for free, as I brought it in way back when I was under warranty two years ago.

Somehow ~ I get the impression that you have already rec'vd the only shaft you'll ever see out of that dealer. And the shaft you are expecting will never materialize. Verbal confrontations adds yet another complication in customer/dealer relationship ~ each having their personal dignity on the line.

I recall waiting in a processing line to move to my new assignment overseas. The TMO specialist/Airman was a friend of mine. This Lt was very assertive and s'kosh demeaning. He was headed to Japan as was I. As I stepped up to the counter ~ my friend was putting the finishing touches sending the Lt's hold baggage to Greece.

I casually 'mentioned' the shaft to a dealer while visiting family in TX. They slapped one in and I was out of there ~ just as many here were saying they're on a wait list. Go figure ~

The first three attempts at getting the problem resolved went nowhere, and I was nice about it. After reading more and more members here getting the new shaft installed I inquired again. Still, they gave me the run around saying the lube job was the only fix per GM. I even showed them the reports off the diesel page for proof. They wouldn't even look at them. The point I was getting at, is the fact I had it documented that I still had the rattle after the last lube job. When the new shaft was in supply, I should have recieve a call from the service department to make arrangements for me to bring in my truck, so they could replace it and close out my open repair. That too me would be good customer service. You should get something for your $40,000.00 price tag, not just the truck and a set of keys!

Well, I got the shaft today! And I mean that in a good way. :D Dealer finally swapped out the OEM. Test drive home was good, didn't feel any rattling at all. Too bad the mechanic had to muck up my floor mat and door sill. I guess that's all part of the deal.
