Hey guys, - just a stupid quick question..
My truck now has 700 miles on it and I noticed the other day that on my drive way (incline, she seems to be dripping a very small amount(like 2 drips) of tranny fluid..! Is this because of seals wearing in / parking on a slope or a sign of something more sinister? I've just started to park it in the garage so I'm not sure if it'll do it on the flat yet or not..

Oh and my AC doesn't seem to blow anywhere near as cold as my 03 Tahoe did...!!?!??

Thanks
Pete

Lucky us......I just notice my tranny was doing the same thing (3,700 miles). However, the transmisson seems to be operating flawlessly. Stopped by the dealer yesterday and they cleaned it up and put dye in it. Planning on pulling it next Monday. I did several searches on TDP threads last night and haven't seen the Allison leak mentioned much for the last few months.

Right now I have LOTS of concerns. I don't think my dealer has had a lot of experience with Allison problems. Also, many of the threads indicated that after attempted repairs, they ultimately replaced the tranny.

I know very little about this matter and hope some of experts on the forum can help guide us through this experience.

hoppy1942, if you dealer is not experienced with the Allison, try locating an authorized Allison service facility in your area. You can go to Allisons website, and they have a dealer/service locator feature. I'm sure one of these has seen and worked on many more than your dealer. Hope this helps. Good Luck, DinoMax

My original trans filter leaked ever so slightly wen truck was new, I replaced it at 5,000 miles and yep that one leaked a little as well. I can't remember how many miles it was before they stopped leaking but both did stop over time.

Ditto, there seemed to always be a drop hanging on the bottom of the filter. Never enough to change the level at all and dosen't do it anymore.
Dinomax,
Yes the Allison service center would be the best for the reasons you mention, but they can't do it under warranty.

Mine isn't showing around the filter...looks to be coming from bellhousing area. However, I could stick everything I know about transmissions in my eye and not blink. Service Advisor kept saying looks like front seal to him. Another case of "no good deed goes unpunished"....I was just bragging on the Allison here on the forum last week.

Seems to be the same place.. Mine looks like the bell housing too.. - It's such a minor leak that I'm just going to monitor for now and see how she goes. Just wondered what people had to say about it.. - I hate to say it, but I'm glad I'm not the only one.. sorry..

Well join the club. I can't for the life of me find the thread I started about 4 months ago when I bought my truck, but it was not a week when I noticed it was leaking from the bell housing. Took it into service and after a week they replaced the front seal, next day it was dripping again. Took it to another dealer (due to problems I had with the first, on top of not fixing the problem) and they called Allison and they recommended replacing a bunch of parts, including seals and pumps and stuff. After 2 more weeks I finally got the truck back and have not had a problem since. Also in the thread there were other people that had the same leak and they were lucky enough to get the entire transmission replaced.

Good luck.

yes don't settle for anything less than a replacement.....I had this happen to me in March of 2003...needless to say...after some yelling...at GM....I had a new one replaced.....no questions asked....I called the 800 # in MI....and talked to GM over there....took it to the dealer with appointment set up...on the phone with the customer service on the line...and had no problems that way...other wise got the old runarond
needless to say...they replaced front seal...sent torque converter out....and checked ot OK....I knew what was wrong before it went in.....checked it out myself.....what happened was the torque converter bolts were loose in the flywheel....taking out the front seal....when it does that it takes the front bushing with it...there for ...leaking againg....so they had it all fixed or so they thought....put it in...leaked...so i had gotten a new one...or I should say..refurbished.....hasnt had a prob....since...it went out....with 48,650 on her...and now has 60,750 on her to date....had it replaced free of charge....gotta love GM...... :D anyways moral of story....don't give up fighting....it's worth it.... :D :D :D

Left it at the dealers this morning....I'm to check back Wednesday and see what they have found out. Don't feel good about it. If I don't get satisfactory answers Wedneday, I'm planning to call GM.

Hoppy,

Call GM anyway and put in a complaint. I had less then 200 miles on mine when I had to take it back. You bet I exhausted every avenue to get it done fast. After being in and out of the dealer for 3 weeks I finally got it back with no leaks, then I started on my campaign to get something extra out of this whole ordeal. They started out offering me an extended warranty but I had already purchased one and they were not going to refund my money, the next offer was a service contract. So after bickering over this for 2 weeks they wore me down and I took it, but I guess it was better then nothing, free oil changes for 3 years.

The other thing you should insist on is a rental truck, don't let them put you into a small car. Tell them you need the truck for your job, even if it isn't true. They may have to get approval from the regional manager, so let them.

DieselDixon....

I think you're right on the approach. They pawned off a 98 Malibu with 98000 on me this morning. Doesn't hurt anything this week, but if they keep my Dually next week they will have to come up with a truck. Hard to run a farm without one. I left my warranty book in the truck this morning so I don't have the phone numbers, etc. I will pick it up Wednesday morning and call GM.

Blowinsmoke...

I'll post an update Wednesday night. Stopping my the dealer first thing Wednesday morning and going on to Knoxville, TN.

Really appreciate the advise and insight I have gained from the TDP and it members.

Gene,

I did a bit of searching and found the TSB for the 1.8lbs to 1.6 change.. I've printed it out and I can assure you it will be taped to the stearing wheel when it goes in ;)

Hoppy: Thanks. I'm waiting for a call back from my dealer with a date for next week. I'll let you know how mine goes too. I'm a little  about having to take it in so soon - I'm having so much fun with it.. So I may try and get them to throw me a set of clearence lamps in while it's there.. what do you guys think..? Front fogs or clearence lamps..? ;)

Hoppy: I have an update... Spoke to my service guy yesterday to set up a time to bring it in next week. Well, I was all set to have this heated battle about the Tranny but when I started with the AC problem and he fired off "Oh yeah there's a TSB for that about the factory over filling it to 1.8lbs - I've done a few, no problem" I was like WOW!.. So I said the words "tranny/leak/bellhousing" - the reply was "No problem, done a few of those as well - Allison wont let us take it apart so we'll be sending out for another tranny, we should have it all done and back to you within 3-4 days"!!!!
"See ya Monday" I said.. - :D Hope yours goes that well..! Still, I guess I've yet to have it repaird.. Might come back with the tranny in upside down or back to front ;) .

Well, Blowinsmoke is doing better than I am. Just got back from the dealer and they had ordered new bolts for TC and pump. I absolutely threw a "fit", so they are back on the phone with GM. I will be placing a call to GM this afternoon.

I may have to make a trip to Grand Rapids......

Just dropped the truck off to have the ali looked at and the AC TSB done. The guy doesn't seem so keen now to replace the tranny  .., I guess I'll have to wait and see what he says. How you doing Hoppy?

I'm not real happy either. They replaced all TC & pump bolts/washers and installed a new seal. Just picked it up (but they were finished Monday morning) and have driven it about 60 miles. So far no leak showing. I'm going to put about 800 miles of primarily Interstate driving (with a load and some mountains) on it the last of next week and see what happens.

The dealer and GM have agreed that if it leaks again they will replace the tranny and extend the warranty. Frankly I hope they fixed it.

Good news Hoppy!! Fingers crossed for ya. I spoke with my service guy on Tuesday and he said he would be ordering a new tranny.. There was only one in the state.. Anyway, to cut a long story short, we had some strong storms that took power out and they failed to order it :( - Now they're going to fix it using the "Drain Back Kit" - sounds to be the same as what they did to yours.. Bolts/Pump/Housing etc.. should pick it up today or tomorrow.. It was only leaking from 1 bolt and when they removed it it wasn't torqued the same as the others, so It might have just been that - I hope so..

Thanks for the update
Pete

My tranny would be wet but not dripping near the front since new.At each oil change I would spray break cleaner on the wet spots and clean it up.At the last oil change (22,500)no oil at all, clean as the last time it was cleaned.Guess I better knock on wood.

125 miles after repair it is leaking again. To his credit, the service manager noticed it. It was so slight that I didn't see it.

He and the dealer agree the tranny is to be replaced and warranty extended...now to deal with GM again. Hate to be without the truck for another week. Still have less than 5,000 miles on it.
