I'm thinking of trading my '02 1500 for a 2500 '05, 06, or a used d-max LB7.

Questions are.....

1.Will going from 245's to 265's hurt or help fuel mileage? (empty @ hwy speeds)

2. Does anyone if the 6spd Ally will help out mileage? The 6spd runs 70mph@1800, the 5spd runs 70mph@2050

3. What aftermarket products can be installed to help MPG's (chips, pipes, filters)?

4. Did the LB7 or the LLY motor have some injector problems, If your looking at used trucks would you prefer a LB7 over the LLY?

I will not be towing much so power dosen't concern me as much as MPG's

thanks ben

Going up one size in tires would likely have a negligible effect on fuel economy. It is important to either correct the speedo/odo when calculating fuel economy, or correct the programming using one of the aftermarket programmers. Those who don't make any adjustments when upsizing tires are those we hear from most complaining about a loss in fuel economy.

Running max allowed air pressure in your tires and driving "for fuel economy" will do more to improve your fuel costs than any product. Otherwise, any product that improves engine/drivetrain efficiency would have an effect. This includes a free-flowing exhaust and intake, synthetic fluids, and possibly a performance module/program that modifies fuel injection timing.

The LB7's have experienced injector problems - not all, but enough to make that a possibility. However, the 2001/02 models also have a factory 7-year/200K extended warranty.

The LB7's have the most power potential when using aftermarket products.
