My Dmax/Allison with 19k miles all of a sudden has a low spongy brake pedal. Anyone have any similar experience? The pads are real good as I had it inspected last week. The fluid level is good and doesn’t appear to be leaking. I can push pedal all the way to the floor and hear a bleed off sound by pedal with the motor running and the truck parked. Is this normal?

I don't know if this is a "coincidence" or not but just before our trip to Florida, I think we had about 18,500 miles, our hydroboost had a nasty leak..some gasket was bad, or something like that..but at that same time, our brake pedal was very low to the floor as well. Once we had our hydroboost replaced, the pedal is back up at the top. We never had any low fluid either, the resivour was at the full line. It went about 4500 miles leaking....

might want to check that..you'll see the fluid, I think it's power steering fluid all over the driver's side engine compartment if it's leaking.

On both of my trucks I can push the pedal almost all the way to the floor - using alot of force though. If it seems to not brake smoothly or have a spongy feeling- get it in for service. You may have a hydroboost problem.

GlenM, All of the GM pickup turcks that I have owned with the power steering boost system does just as you explained and that seems to be normal. I have complained about this over the years and this seems to be how they work. It can be very exciting when you are in a panic stop and the brake pedal goes all the way to the fire wall, and you are still in need of more stoping power. Yes , the hissing or bleed off sound is normal when you push the pedal to the fire wall. Anyone who has not had this happen, just get in your truck, when it is stoped with the engine running and push the pedal to the fire wall, to experince this for yourself. As for the low spongy pedal that's a different oppertunity. Mine has always been this way since it was new, so I assumed that was normal, also. Jim

Try depressing the pedal when the truck is off.... It should go to the floor, FAST. Kind of scary at first but that's a characteristic of this type of hydroboost....
