Hello all,
Just got back from a trip to Idaho. Duramax needs TLC.

I was adjusting the drivers side electric seat when I heard a pop. Now the rail closest to the drivers door is not moving. Other side is ok and moves but the drivers door side is binding up. I can not see anything that is blocking it.

Any ideas?

Also noticed the fog lamps and Cab Roof marker lights are not working (3500). I don't think these 2 items are on the same fuse but I could be wrong. Does anyone know which fuses control these 2 items. If they are not the same any ideas on why both are not working?

Thanx,
Jim

A pop usually indicates a short on a fused circuit. The circuit breaker for the seats is in the fuse panel on the side of the dash when you open the front door. The owner's manual has some pictures showing where fuses are in the truck, I think? It's possible a wire got pinched in the seat mechanism, although I don't know what a wire for the fog and cab lights would be doing under the seat. You're best bet would be to let the dealer look at it if you're still under warranty.

However...
I had a wire going to the seat motor shorting out under the driver's side door threshhold. The circuit breaker (not a fuse) was opening for the power seats and was so hot it took skin off my finger when I touched it (ouch!) Of course the dealer's guy ended up saying he found something wrong underneath the passenger seat, which he never even removed... (couldn't find the wire splice he said he did either!) When it started happening again the day after I got it back, I went looking myself and found the wire shorting out against a metal bracket inside the rocker wiring channel. He must have moved it just enough when he was moving things around to cause it to not short any more, and just wrote b.s. down to say he fixed something. This could be your problem also. The wire is orange.

IIRC, I think only the door side seat channel is actually geared to the motor, so it would appear to be bound up with respect to the other side, which I think just slides to stay even with the geared side.
