First sighting of 2003 Chevy 3500HD

I just saw a 2003 Chevy 3500HD on the road. Beleive it not it does look good. I didn't like the pictures at first, but in real life it looks good.

Excellent, I was hoping that would be the case. Certain vehicles are like that. I find the current-gen Monte Carlo lame-duck in almost every photo. But you walk up to one and they're quite nice and well-proportioned.

I didn't know they still made a 3500HD. I thought it was being replaced by the C4500. The 3500HD is the old C/K style chassis. Unless you mean a 3500. :confused:

Fisrt, I am not saying you are wrong. But, the production date for the earliest truck is not until 6/24--not ordering, but production, according to http://www.wheels.com/reference/referenceFrame.htm
Where did you see it and is it somewhere you can stop and get a pic?

I saw a 2003 last week, I was just driving down the road and it pulled out right in front of me.

From those of you that have seen one of the HD's. Are the front ends exactly the same as the 1500's that we have seen in the pictures or do they still have a power dome hood. I think the new grill would look good with some sort of the power dome hood. If they are identical how did they solve the problem of the 2 inch difference between the 1500 and the 2500hd.

The 3500 (D-Max) that I saw (New front end) came from the Pontiac Plant. It was Pewter, 4X4, Ext-Cab. The day before I saw two regular Cabs (D-Max) with the "New" blue on them. tongue.gif tongue.gif Did I forget to mention, the D-Max Oil Pan is changing slightly. tongue.gif tongue.gif

First off, they (GM) have what they call "Pilot" builds. This allows the plant to De-bug any issues on the assembly line with a change-over. This allows enough time to cover any "open Issues" with new product release, therefor allowing production to start on time when 06/24/02 rolls around. I work for a automotive supplier, I live this; day in and day out. Plus we supply to D-Max in Moraine, Ohio.

Second, I stated that the truck I saw was around the Pontiac Plant. The 3500's are only built at the Flint Plant (about 40/50 miles away), maybe the guy was out joy riding and got lost.

Third, just want to keep those who are not as privileged as us that live around the Motor City up to date. :cool: :cool:

I wondered how it works when they are re-tooling and doing these "pilot" trucks? What do they do with those trucks? And, is the downtime built into the worker's schedule as vacation time? Anything you can add that people on the outside don't know would be interesting.

HDs changed in 2 years LDs in 4 WOW! Used to take 10 years+. GM is hungry and is trying very hard to whip F#*d in truck sales. I hope the new style doesn't hurt them. BTW are the Burbs and Tahoes being changed also?
