A friend of mine just purchased a 2500HD 2wd work truck, and it came with the 4.10 rear end ratio. My friend makes long distance delivery for a mining machinery company, and was told by the Dealer that his truck was not available with 3.73 ratio. Is this true? And if so, is it feasible for him to consider changing the ratio? Your comments will be appreciated.

If his truck has the 6.0L engine, then yes, the 4.10 rear end is the only one available in the 2500HD. To get the 3.73 rear end with the 6.0L, you'd have to drop down to a regular 2500, or maybe? the 1500HD. If the engine in his 2500HD is the 8.1L, then he should have the option of the 3.73 or 4.10 rear end.

I am thinking (not well though) that if his truck has the 11.5 ring gear, the 3.73 should be available. I don't think there are any available on the aftermarket, so I'll bet it is a pricy number. Might be cheaper/better to go with a tire that has a larger diameter.
I'll check to see which rear end he has - maybe someone else knows, as the shop manual shows a 10.5 ring gear as well.
