Spare Tire will not come down

Before I picked up my 02HD I had the dealer put 265 E rated tires on including the spare. 30,000 miles later I wanted to lower the spare and the rod engages but when we tried to turn it, it seems to slide out of the female connector and nothing happens. Ideas??

Sounds like something is just stuck. Try a BFH.

Did you you insert the larger square end of the jack rod.

No, I inserted the the solid end with a small lip on it.

I faintly remember a recall with the 1500 series trucks a couple of years back, where the plastic guide tube, between the bumper and the winch would bend with tire raised, and prevent getting the handle fully engaged in the winch. I didn't think this was an issue with the 2500/3500 series though. I've had my spare off numerous times with no problems.
If the wider spare tire was getting in the way of your jack handle, I wonder if deflating the tire would help.
