Don't know if anyone here has been tracking the Banks project "Sidewinder", where they installed the latest generation 5.9 CTD into a Dakoda. Their plan was to drive it to the salt flats pulling a trailer with all the gear needed to break records, then drive it back home. For anyone who's never been to Bonneville, I can tell you that going 218 mph, there, in a street driven pickup truck was no easy feat, even with all the resources of Banks at hand.
Good thing Banks decided not to try the Dmax in there; it would have only went 98 mph! ;)
Must be a pretty tight fit in a Dakota?
I'm thinking that it must be pretty exciting driving that thing at 200+ mph on salt.
:eek:
Your right flat out 98 mph but it gets there mighty quick.....
=>New Venture transmission model no. NV5600 is a six speed, manual shift model found in 4x2 Dodge Rams with either V10 or the Cummins 5.9 turbo diesel. Complete blueprinting was undertaken by the New Venture technicians assuring that the transmission shifts smoothly and provides the highest level of reliability. Otherwise the gearbox is completely stock with the following gear ratios:
1st = 5.63
2nd = 3.38
3rd = 2.04
4th = 1.39
5th = 1.00
6th = 0.73
Got a question ,I see they are running a stock NV5600...What rear axle ratio are they running????

From the website:
The massive rear axle assembly is a quickchange with a 3.06 ring and pinion ratio and quickchange spur gears allowing a wide selection of over and underdrive ratios. By working backwards with the following parameters: desired top speed of 210 MPH with a 3800 RPM engine speed and a tire roll out (circumference) of 90 inches, the final drive ratio of 2.11 is needed. With a top gear transmission ratio of 0.73 to 1, a spur gear set of 22-to-32 teeth will allow the Project Sidewinder to reach the target speed.

Thanks
I was wondering since the drove it there and tow'd a trailer....

On the final run they recorded an avrege just over 217mph and a top speed of just over 222mph. (thanks for the info Tank)
