View Full Version : Detroit diesel specifications for transplant into a Jeep
I was entertaining the idea of putting a Detroit diesel 3-53 or 3-71 into a jeep. But the first step I think is to find the specifications on these things like Physical height, weight and depth etc. HP, torque at what RPM's. To see what gearing would make this drivable. The vehicle that the diesel would go into was built before 1968 so emission rules are less of a concern. The engine to tranny adapter would be step two for me. Does anyone know of a web site that would have this information? Or any other ideas?
Thanks
Kevin

I was entertaining the same idea, there are some cheap military surplus 3-53's, aluminum blocks at http://www.adelmans.com/military.htm

Turbokid,
Thanks for the information I have sent a email to them with a bunch of questions. This looks like as good fairly cheap solution to a fun father and son project.
Thanks
Kevin
