Well folks, someone had to rain on the diesel parade. The EPA feels that diesel fumes are a probable cause for lung cancer. Check out the story:

Strange, everything I've ever heard (from multiple sources) says that the only problematic part of diesel exhaust is the soot. These will bother you if you have any kinds of breathing or lung conditions. But, other than the particulates, diesel exhaust is supposed to be almost as clean as the intake air, especially with the low-sulfur fuel.

I wonder how much of the deadly fumes are given off by unregulated offroad diesels and those nasty city buses. You know we red-headed stepchildren diesel light truck owners will bear the brunt of any new emissions laws.

Are not gasoline exhaust fumes worse?

I think most gasoline pumps have warning labels indicating the fumes from the fuel can cause cancer. So neither diesel or gasoline is good on the body. I would think gasoline is worse because it is so volatile.
