Good-day to all of you.A friend of mine has problems with his 94'6.5 turbodiesel which does'nt respond to the accelerator pedal when pushed.It just idles.It won't rev up or do anything.He says that turning the key off and on seems to aleviate the problem.Could it be the Pump Mounted Driver?What do you guys think it could be?

This is only the second time I have heard of it happening, and I don't think an exact cause has been determined yet. The other case is still under diagnosis; that truck had the injection pump replaced, but it didn't help (dealer really didn't know what else to do). Consensus seems to say that it's probably a wiring or computer problem, i.e. the computer isn't reading any movement from the throttle pedal, either because the signal is getting lost before it gets to the computer, or the computer itself is just going haywire. I'll check on this other case and see if it has been solved yet.

Mind you, I am being creative here. All I know about these diesels I have learned via my membership. I am not anywhere near being a qualified diesel mechanic.

You could try to get the engine to kick up into high idle RPM's. In this way you might be able to rule out the Accelerator Pedal Positioner sensor versus computer fault.

For starters read this message thread in the 6.5L Turbo Diesel Forum
High Idle on an EFI 6.5 (http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/Forum1/private-vFfydy155/HTML/000672.html)

Also the National Truck Equipment Association (http://www.ntea.com) has fast idle technical reports that you can purchase.
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
I started with the NTEA Aug. 1997 (TR97-08?)"Fast Idle Procedure for 1998 GM 6.5L Diesel Engine" (it's old web address is dead, I had lucked out finding it.)
Which lead me to an April 1994, T94-6 "1,360 RPM Fast Idle PROM For 1994 GM 6.5L Turbo Diesel Engine"
And to a November 1993, TR93-8 "Fast Idle Procedure for 1994 GM 6.5 Turbo Diesel Engine"
[/list]

Good luck and more power to ya.

Eventually both vehicles will be equally upgraded.

I agree with Arveetek and Dave B. The "drive by wire" accelerator pedal (APP) has a triple redundant circuit. When one is out, it may set a code (don't remember off the top of my head, but mine is a '99) but continue to run, but if two or more are out, the engine is only permitted to idle. This sounds like it may be your friend's problem from your description of the symptoms.

A thread to follow is in the 6.5 diesel members forum, where one guy has had a persisitent problem the dealer cannot diagnose (so far).
