My wife has been wanting a SUV diesel. She drove them in Europe and loved them.
Time to play the lottery.

anther possibility is a dodge 1500 with a 325hp v8 cummins in it. dodge has it built whether it will ever be mass produced is another thing.

the article i have about the truck the author said it is wicked fast. add a chip to it can you imagine. in stock form it runs with the hemi and with a chip smile.gif

Well, I got one this Saterday. Traded in the '99 truck. Drives nice and good milage, avg. 18.5 mpg by what trip computer says. Will need time to ajust to the smaller size.

Time for a up date:
First tank 22.6 MPG, dealer fill so it might be wrong.
Second tank 18.8 MPG
Third tank 17.9 MPG, guess hot rodding it is not good. But I am having fun and breaking in engine at same time.
The mods:
Remote starter, CB, and wired fog lamps for Day-time running lamps. More to come after engine breaks in.

They should get a lot better mileage than they do - IMO - do these have a CAT?????

Yes they should get better milage and yes it does have a cat.

I think as the engine breaks in and we get this new Ultra-Low Sulfer fuel milage will go up. Also looking into doing B20 - B100 biodiesel this summer.

Last tank, all city driving and driving like I stole it. Manage to get 20.1 MPG.
Also I noticed that when floored from a stop it has a very noticable turbo lag. If I go half throttle, let it get to about 1000 RPMs then floor it takes off better.

What head arangement does this engine use? The only VMs I've worked on were the old V-8s w/ 1 aluminum head per cylinder. They couldn't build heads fast enough for them. They busted like crazy.

Here is a pdf file of the head.

@ least it looks like they changed their head design. Thats the only major problem I can remember addressing on them.

17-20 mpg for that size vehicle seems low to me. I would be thinking 24-27.Hope it improves. Mileage definately not good enought to interest me. My 6.5 gets 17!

This time of year my old 6.5 crew cab w/60K miles got from 12-14 MPG. With summer fuel and more miles this will get better.

1999 2500 2wd 6.5l crew cab = 6500 lbs.
2005 CRD 2.8l Jeep Liberty = 4200 lbs. shipping weight.

1/2 the engine to move 2300 lbs less weight. It's no Jetta.
