View Full Version : Jeep Liberty to offer diesel
Chrysler says powerplant, minus noise, smell, will be available in 2004 in N. America
The automaker already sells a Liberty overseas, known there as the Cherokee, that is powered by a Mercedes-Benz diesel.

I don't know about a MD deisel but I do know that they use an Italian built, VM Motori diesel overseas. Detroit diesel bought VM while Roger Penske owned the company so it is still a D/C engine.
There are some pics of the engine here:

I have also seen a Durango with a V-6 "Delta" diesel which is also a Detroit Diesel engine.

If it in a MB diesel, they you can be sure that it will be very well made. They have been making excellent diesels for a long time.
Sir,
could you please tell all where we can
verify this rumor. Local dealer in Pa
when asked told me no such thing. Of
course the last person on earth I would
believe is a dealer.

Do a "google.com" search using "Jeep Liberty to offer diesel"
You'll get a ton of hits.

This would certainly be easier to deal with versus purchasing an unheard of and unseen Brazilian Crosslander. I will e-mail Chrsyler Canada and see if they are going to do anything here. I have to replace a vehicle and having driven my 6.5 for the last four years I can not stand the thought of having to purchase another gas powered vehicle.
Yeah, but the Liberty is YOU GEE ELL WHY ugly! It looks like a Kia Sportage scaled up 10% or so. At least the Crosslander looks kinda like something The Crocodile Hunter would drive :D
