View Full Version : Pay for Gauge install??
I'm auto impaired to some degree although not totally incapable. Had the local speed shop quote me $350-$400 to put in boost and pyro on A-piller mount. They also recommended Autometer instead of Isspro. Total parts would be another $350. Am I just being lazy??

If you are even mildly mechanically inclined you CAN do this. Look closely at the article about gauges in the "articles" section. It explains it all. If you remove the inner fender, drilling the exhaust manifold is a piece of cake. I did not even use a right angle drill to do it. Just start with a small hole and open it up once or twice. You also need a 1/4" pipe tap for the hole. The parts to tee into the boost line from the wastgate I got at Home Depot.
I have VDO gauges and I paid $150 for the pyro and the boost was around $50 (I think). I have had good luck with them and are on the original thermocouple after 5 years.
Good Luck with whatever You do but it is a piece of cake.

CAN YOU SAY.....OUCH!!!
$350-400 is a lot $$$. I would say it should take no more than 3-4 hours for the complete install for an A-Pillar. I know labor isn't cheap anymore..$60.00 to $85.00 per hour...but come on. You can do it. Go find a buddy, tell him a 12 pack will be cold and ready...

Get off the computer and into the garage, install your gauges and reap the benefits of saving the cash and think about the feeling of satisfaction you will have when its done. JUST DO IT !!!!! tongue.gif

Installing the gauges is very, very easy.
The hardest part for me was bumming the 1/8" tap from my neighbor (can't find mine in the garage.)
The time consuming part was waiting for the paint to dry on the a-pillar pod.
Do it yourself and save the $400. Then you're halfway to owning a Juice or something else you want.

Thanks for the whipping guys! I knew posting would get me encouragement. I'm off the computer and into the garage.

I'm at McGuire for a few more days and I'd like to look at your truck before I head for St. Louis. Drop me an email and I'll call.
