I orderd some of the Phillips 70 and 100 watt Rally bulbs from Diesel Services Group. They are the only ones I have found to have them in stock.

I had one of my original rally bulbs burn out, could not find replacements at the time so I tried some 80 watt JC Whitney bulbs. They didn't last as long and were not as bright as the phillips.

I then tried Sylvania Silverstar low beam bulbs. They are pretty bright and much brighter than stock, but I dunno if they are as bright as the rally bulbs. I will put one of each in and compare.

Are they legal for on-road use?

I had the Rallys, 70/100, when I installed my KD headlamp harness. They were bright, but didn't last long (enough). I've since switched to Silverstars and will continue to use them. I just wish the price would come down. The Silverstars aren't as bright (OEM wattage and legal), but I notice better vision with them. The Rallys are a very yellow light, compared to the SS.

If you use the higher wattage bulbs, you should have an aftermarket harness with relays installed. The OEM wires are marginal, even with OEM wattage bulbs. KD's kit is excellent and easy to install. There are other kits available, but I don't have any experience with them. Some kits (the cheaper ones) aren't any better than OEM. If they don't have relays, the extra load placed on your ECM and switch can cause problems. If you use "performance" bulbs (or even OEM bulbs) with the OEM wiring, you are not going to get the best performance from any bulb. An added advantage to the harness kit is "all 4 on" with the high beams.

I've had excellent service from the Philips Premium series bulbs. They are nice and bright and do not have any tint on the glass so they do not suppress or filter the light puting it all on the road...

I have the KD harness, and feel that added with the Silverstar bulbs create MUCH more light than stock. They do not however make as much light as the rally bulbs. The Silverstars make a more "white" light, but not as bright.

I stocked up on the rally bulbs as I work night shift. Its dark when I drive to work and dark when I drive home. Vehicle lighting is very important to me.

Also, I am suprised at how much effect the build up of road slime on light housings has. I wipe mine off once a week with windex and notice a big difference.

Funny thing is, last I heard DSG would not sell the bulbs w/o the harness...

Yeah I heard that to. However I didn't have a problem. I bought a box full of the rally bulbs.

The Silverstars are to dang expensive to just lay around so I will put them in the wifes envoy, hopefully they take the same kind of bulb. I will also try the phillips premium bulbs in this car.
