In the 2500HD the sunroof has a mesh screen inside instead of the typical "blackout" type cover. Is there a fix to block out the sun? This sucks!!! The Yukon

When i picked up my 05 with sunroof i thought the screen was a good idea but what little i have driven it i am questioning it!!! It`s comical that the Yukon has`nt got a screen (black flys, mosquiteos, no-seems) You need a bug screen in Alaska & The Yukon.Would like to know if there is a simple option or easy change. Please advise.

don't know if there is anything you can do to replace the screen but I do know that these are not GM installed. they are installed by a aftermarket Co. after assembly. also they are externally sealed and do not use drains like on the tahoes. I'll see if i can find the name of the Co. again tommrow.

Thanks Madmatt! Do you think I am going to have problems with the roof leaking?

I don't think so. I at first thought the same as you but upon further inspection I belive they'll actually be more leak resistent then the type in Tahoes that have drains. The drains are prone to clog and some are installed w/ kinks in them that if parked on a off cambered surface will cause a leak into the cab due to the drain not being able to handle the amount of water draining towards that side of the vehicle. I would be sure to keep the seals moist though to keep them from drying out and cracking. Use a water based grease. Remember...KY jelly has more uses then you think. It makes great o-ring lube.

I have decided that the screen in stead of a slider is to make room for the DVD Player they are now showing. When I ordered mine in Dec 04 I was told you could`nt get Sunroof and DVD both Because there was`nt room. The roll up screen allows space now.I was able to see both in a GMC at a new car show on weekend.

that makes sense although they could have made the sliding shade out of a solid material instead of the preforated sun screen. oh well, hinde sight's 20/20. maybe next year!
