I have a 1994 3/4Ton w/a 6.5L Turbo in it. I purchased a glow plug timer typically used on Marine Diesels, it allows for manual control of how long the glow plugs stay on for. Installation sheet said to disconnect the entire factory controller and use only the main power wire into the controller (big red wire) and the 2 orange wires leading to the glow plugs. When I did this the truck would start rough and not engage in fast idle at all. It reconnected the 3 wires to the original controller and left the main wires hooked to the new timer and then it seemed to start fine. Next day I tried to start it again and it started hard again.
Question, does the factory controller need to still be connected to the ignition power (big red wire) in order to engage a fast idle and easier starting?
