View Full Version : Teckonsha Prodigy & Fuses
Just hooked up my Prodigy.
Searched the list and found this thread about the underhood fuses:

My question is, what exactly does the 40 amp Post#1 fuse do?
My truck came with the 30 amp Post#2 fuse installed.
I know this has been talked about before, but the post also said that the Post#1 fuse wasn't required...?
Sends power back through the tow wire to the trailer. Useless if you don't have aux lights etc on the trailer.
I had to put mine in to charge the RV battery in the trailer.
Ah, thank you.
Only cost $3.50 at Napa.
If your trailer has breakaway brakes (ie most of them), you MUST put the fuse in. It's required to keep the battery for the breakaway system charged.
As Bora mentioned, it also provides accessory 12v power to the trailer.
Note that the trailer power connector is ALWAYS hot with this fuse installed, so you can drain the battery in your truck if you're not careful.
My prodigy came w/the necessary fuse
OK I know this is going to be a first grade question but isn't the factory round wiring recepticle set up to wire an electric brake controller to?
My boat has a 5 pin connector and I bought a $10 adapter to plug on it that goes into the round resepticle under the bumper. Works fine.
I just ordered a car carrier with electric brakes and need a brake controller.
Can someone direct me to a thread explaining how to hook it up.
I don't have much luck with the search function.
No fuses with my Prodigy - oh well, the 3 bucks didn't hurt too bad...
I love it that you can mount it up at an angle and it will self-level.
I just got my prodigy all wired up, and it seems like power to the unit is always on. The truck has been parked for 20 minutes now and the unit is still on. Do the little 2 red LEDs turn off with time? Do they stay on constantly? Is it enough to run down the battery over night? Thanks

You might try this...

I used a harness from an 02 switching the two proper wires, but some companies have the harnesses out that are modified. If you ask your dealer, they can look it up on their computer and GM has put out a TSB (technical Service Bulletin) on how to modify the 01/02 harnesses to work for the 03's. Hope this helps..

VA-DMAX
The led lights stay on on my Prodigy but go out after a while(not sure on time) Never has run down my battery. The led will come back on next time you step on the brake pedal.

VA_Dmax ~ I get exactly the same. So, I consider it normal

The two little LED's on the Prodigy will run your dual batteries down in about 20 years.
