Two Questions:

1. XM or Sirius?

2. What is the "best" CB radio set-up (radio and antenna)?

I think I know the answer to the first question, but would like others' opinions. I am not knowledgable on CB Radios, but have always gotten the best of information from this forum

1> Although I don't have either XM or Sirus in my truck a few people I work with have XM and are very happy with it.

2> I currently am running a Cobra radio and have tried a lot of antennas. I now have a 3' (flex) K-40 mounted to the front driver's side. Do a search for "CB Bracket - stainless steel". The bracket work well and looks good.

I tried K-40 magnet mount on the roof- Way too high and no way can I go into a garage.
I tried Wilson magnet mount- Works well and is shorter then the K-40, still can't go into a garage.
3' (flex) K-40 no problems so far. It's only been about 3 weeks but so far I like this set up the best.

The biggest problem I had was where to mount the radio. There isn't any room in the newer trucks for any additional toys. I put mine on the driver's side of the console, pointing up.

Eddy,

I don't know much about the alternative to XM radio but I can say that it is a great extra. I love the XMComedyCentral channel 150. Very funny. There's almost a bit for anyone on XM, I'm waiting for an Irish or Celtic music channel to come someday...like the 'Thistle and Shamrock' segment on NPR. but 24/7 that'd be sweet. My only beef with the XM is that they do not buffer it enough. When you go under a bridge you lose the signal (depending on how fast you are going) or if you are near a 3 story building (narrowed it down to that short :D ) But other than those little quirks it's quite a good radio.

As for #2 I have a cobra the one that is illuminated with weather channels etc. have it for work but don't use it much. If you look around HD-Nate and a couple others have a set up where it is in the center console in the big cubby hole underneath where the 'tapedeck' would go in some model years. I have yet to get to installing mine into that space. It's on my mod todo list for 2004 :D :D :D

And for setups, JERMCK made a CB stainless steel bracket that many here enjoy and have a 3 footer on. I believe it is mounted across from the stock am/fm antenna on the left of the hood. I have seen pictures and have yet to order mine, I'm waiting for a black finish, even though most of it is concealed by the hood. But that's just me...

Enjoy!

Hi Eddy:

I've had experience with both XM and Sirius (XM in the Vette, Sirius in the DMAX), and personally feel that XM is far superior to Sirius in both formatting and selection, and it doesn't hurt that the subscription's cheaper either! I've been anxiously awaiting a converter to arrive on the market so that I may convert the Kenwood in the DMAX to XM. I'll be going with XM in the new Peterbilt too (yep, I bought a 379 Pete w/550 horse Cat and 18 spd Eaton over Xmas...the latest "toy").

As far as CB's go, the Cobra model 29 NW Classic is a good choice, and works very well with four foot firesticks on the Pete mirrors. I'll defer to the folks running CB's on their DMAX's for antenna advice, as I don't use a CB in mine.

And starting Feb 1st XM goes 100% commercial free. Probably just a stunt to run sirius out of business as that has been the main complaint I have heard about XM (more commericals than sirius). Also they are adding some other channels along with continuous weather channels for some major metro areas I think around march 1 or something.

XM, as mentioned above they will go 100% commercial free on their "Music" stations. Some of the talk stations like CNN, Fox, ETC. will still have commercials. Even when they do they are only a couple per 1/2 to 1 hour. This was the first "Freebie" service I was going to drop after the trial period, but then I made the mistake of turning it on  Since then, I dont even have any FM stations programed in my radio buttons. Its a keeper :D

2. What is the "best" CB radio set-up (radio and antenna)? As mentioned above, go to my "Pictures" below and look at my Cobra I intalled in the console. Its a sweet fit and easy to do. Then look up JERMECK for you antenna mount on the drivers side fender, its a quality piece that is worth twice what he is asking for it ;) Antenna, you cant go wrong with a Firestick.

I am happy with my SoMnDmax custom antenna mount using existing hood mount bolts and a 3 foot FireStik...and scanner/CB in the console.

I have installed XM radio. I purchased the Delphi Ski-Fi unit with FM modulator at Ziebart. They installed it for free. I also upgraded my speakers and added an amp. WOW!!! What a difference that makes. Of course, I haven't even listened to regular radio since. And I have so much yet to discover on XM.

I have received the CB antenna bracket from JERMCK and have it installed. Yet to purchase set up, but seriously considering Firestick of some sort and a Galaxy 959.

Thanks for the replies.

Forgot the TTT mirrors!!! Probalby something else too. Guess I'll have to write it all down so I don't forget.

Thanks again guys.

I have a great truck, love it, and have no problems with it.
