Just put 225x70/19.5 on my duelly. It made an amazing inprovment in handling and ride compared to the 215's that were on it. No problems with the tires hitting also, about 2" clearence between them. Hight is same as 235x16. Initial cost is a little high but the improvment is well worth it and in the long run it will be cheaper.

1822,

What brand tires did you use? You need to post some pics :D

mdrag, I used General LMT-450. They get really good traction and are very quiet. As soon as I can keep the salt off my truck for more than a day I will post some pics. Seems this year they are using much more salt than previous winters-yuk.

1812,

I considered the General LMT-450 when I did the conversion, but I had a hard time finding them in stock. Seems they are an OEM tire choice on the F-450 and were in short supply at the time.

Yo 1812(didn't we have a war then?) Anyway, who reprogrammed your PCM for taller tires?

Heartbeat Hauler- The GMC dealer I use reprogramed for the tires. They are the same as 235/85x16 so you use that tire size to correct the spedo.

I was under the impression that there was a warranty issue with going to a larger size tire. I guess I missunderstood. BTW I would like to see some pics of your setup.

Heartbeat,

If I understand the tire reprogramming situation for the Dmax/Allison correctly, the dealer can only reprogram the ABS for non-OEM tire sizes.

Relative to warranty issues, if the dealer goes by the book and GM's official position - they were instructed not to trouble shoot drivetrain complaints unless the OEM wheels/tires are re-installed. Dealers seem to handle this differently though. I haven't had my truck in for service since installing the big wheels, so I can't report my experience yet...

mdrag- That seems to make sense because before and after the change 2000 rpm was still 70mph. However the odometer was changed. A 20 mile trip before registed 18 mi. and after correction 20.1 mi. Correcting for the ABS must also affect the odo. and not the spedo. By the way, a very good family friend was born and raised in Lawton by the name of Dodge, do you know them?

1822,

I'm not originally from Lawton and have not met anyone named Dodge. I checked the phonebook listings just for grins, and there were only two - Andrew and Jayson.
