HD Caps on H2 Rims How to convert?

I have a set of H2 rims on my 1998 Suburban. I purhased a set of 03 HD Chrome caps. Can anyone tell me what mods need to be made, AND are there special lug bolts needed. The ones I have are not nearly long enough to allow the black caps to screw on to them.

The stock lug nuts off a current HD will allow the caps to screw on but you need to trim the 3 or 4 nibs on the back off first.

Before you cut the nibs off, do a fit check with the HD lug nuts. My caps fit the H2 rims without having the trim the nibs. I got at least 3 to 4 threads per lug nut. The rims have around 3k miles since installed and no problems.

There are also 2 different size's of chrome caps. The caps that come with the steel wheels and the ones that come with the aluminum. You want the ones from the aluminum wheels, they are smaller and will fit the H2 rims.

You can make the modification reversable if you want to keep the spacers for the OEM wheels. I used a dremel with the thinnest cut-off disk I could find. First you take a pair of pliers and pull the feet off the standoffs on the back of the caps. They are pressed into the hollow legs. Kinda look like thick thumbtacks. I then cut off the legs right at the edge of the cap. I then pressed the feet back into the cut off sections, and it allows me to press them back onto the caps, giving me the OEM standoff height. I just put them in a ziplock baggie for when I put the OEM's back on. I know you won't want to use them for OEM's but, for anyone else not feeling comfortable about "ruining" the OEM caps, you don't have to.

How can I tell if I got the correct caps? I purchased them off ebay and the lady who sold them didnt know what type of wheels they came from only that they came from a 2003. I appear to look like the ones in the pics I have seen where people use the caps on H2 wheels. I have tried to see what a HD lug bold looks like too, are they that much longer than the ones that came on my 98 Suburban?
