View Full Version : Best mud flap?

Who makes the best mudflap? I have had Husky and that "rubber" stuff from Auto Zone. Both were the "wrap around" kind. The Husky is nice but is really too hard. If you hit a deep rut, the Husky can "rip" out and dammage the truck. I also noticed that they would "eat" into the paint...and sheet metal. However, the rubber ones are really nice but they chafe on the paint. Those things really "eat" the paint off and move around (1/8 inch) in the wind.

--- A little imput.... I just cannot make up my mind.

Thanks,

I just put the new 03' "GMC Accessory" molded mud flaps on 03' dually. The rears are new this year, will take some pics and post them. Initial thoughts are that they are that they look nice and seem to work( will have to drive w/them more to make a final recommendation). Use existing holes, along w/two new ones for rears (really like how the rear flaps attach to the truck), fronts use existing holes. The rears are large in width and have GMC embosed into them.

Stage 1,

I'd like to see pics of the rear mud flaps for the dually - if you would not mind posting a few pics. I'm looking for new ones after the 19.5" conversion since the DTA mudflaps don't extend out far enough. Thanks.

I too would be interested in PICS, front and back of rear flaps.please.....You say that GMC is insignia on flap?...Since I would prefer a bowtie I wonder if Chevy has them too??? I have asked at the dealer for flaps prior to 03 and nothing was avail....The factory mud flaps on a Dodge Dually are really nice except for the "GOAT" insignia on it.....If they are that caliber and quality I want......

Rear Dullie w/ Bowtie Logo part number should be 12498327

I had some custom flaps made for my '03 - they're big & rectangular, weighted with a heavy chrome strip at the bottom so they don't "wag in the wind", and work great! I didn't like the molded kind, as they didn't really deflect that much mud.

Plus when I get my 255's they'll be actually useful... ;)

I got the pictures and they are uploaded to the link below under "Mud Flaps". The rears are 20" wide and the ground clearance from bottom of flap is 8" w/235x85 tires.

Was wondering, would they fit on on '02 3500? That would be real nice.

Mcfly,
I would think so, assume that the inner finder brace and bolt, along with the screw at the wheel well lip would be the same. You could do a quick check on the wheel well screws by using a piece of paper and make imprints of the screw heads into the paper with it referenced to the bottom of the lip. Then take the paper to dealer to check it agains new one. Also, if you want I can provide the centerline spacing for the wheel well lip holes on 03'.

Stage 1,

Can you tell me if the mud flaps are plastic or rubber? They look like PVC? Does the rear flap extend inward twards the frame, how close?

Thanks smile.gif

Dee Zee makes a really nice stainless steel dually mud flap, simple install, drill one hole. Plastic/rubber on the bottom, also make small ones for the front. Just had Dee Zee boards installed and stainless rocker panels.

Now if I could find clamp rings to mount my wheel simulators????

Burner,
The inside of the mud flap is about 1.5" out from the rear spring. I have 235x85x16s and they are wider then the tire tread. Yes they are a hard plastic, something like HDPE or PVC.

Do you think it would be a good mudflap for people who do "Real" off roading or would it break/ripoff

Just picked up "Bow Tie" rear mud flaps
for 3500 02.They fit well- easy to install.
But hope I don't have to back up with more
than 8" of snow-expect them to tear of if I
do.Very rigid!

TSimpler,
Hard question to answer. They certainly could be damaged in certain offroad use. All I could say is look at the pictures provided below and judge for yourself. Large debris would likely be a problem. They do bend some but not 180 degrees.
Good luck,

Stage 1,

Thanks for the warning. "Any off-road use may cause dammage" That clearly makes the choice for me. ----- Look out Auto Zone! I guess I'll need to get some of that tape stuff to cover the paint.

Cloud Rider mud flaps!!

http://outlawscustomproducts.com/products/Cloud%20Rider%20Mud%20Flaps%20Front%20Rear.htm

Heavy rubber mud flap similar to a Truck(Semi)mud flap.
Very durable, very flexible! And they look good!

Check out my pics to see how they look on a dually.

Hey Canadakev
any chance of you measuring the width of your tires from one side of the truck to the other side ? I have the 19.5 wheels with the wider tires and need to know if they will work for me.

Hey CanadaKev
How do I go about buying some of these mud flaps they look like what I'm looking for and How much did they cost?

CanadaKev

Cowboy,
I ordered the spacers from www.correctrack.com
I got the 1 3/4" spacers so I had to grind a 1/4" off of my lugs.

With the 2" spacer, there is no modification.

Mackin has a set that he is looking to move if you want to contact him.

deadlyman,

I bought the Cloud Rider mud flaps from Custom Truck Products up here in British Columbia.
Their web site is currently under revision.
You can try this toll-free 1 800 663 5356 or direct @ 1 604 513 1143 ask for Stacy.

Apparently they're made up here in Saskatchewan.

Hi Ron,

I just looked it up on the Chevrolet web site "2003 Accessory Cataloge" page 8 of 10, front fenders w/flares, splash guard w/Bowtie logo is part number 12498060.
I search for chevrolet, then once at the site, at the top of page their is a drop down menu that lists accessories, from their go to chevy trucks, etc. [to find item I download the cataloge as a PDF file and review it w/Adobe reader.
Let me know if you need more help.
