Wheel load capacity?

I have "E" rated tires on this truck but was wondering about the wheels and are they OK for the heavy camper load of 4000#.

Markings are 04-29-02-3L-62 RJR 29361 Accuride, and 04-28-02-7L-61 RJR Accuride on the rears.

Can someone enlighten me, please.

I believe the stock 3500 wheels were rated around 2452 Lbs each. I did bend my drivers inner wheel. Thats why I got the 19.5" Alcoa aluminum wheels on. They are rated at 6600 Lbs each. Pics in my sig.

A tire dealer told me that federal regs require all 8 lug wheels to be able to handle at least 3500#. That rating would be adequate for all light duty trucks (up to one ton). The 19.5's mentioned above are rated much higher which makes sense since they are typically used on the medium duty trucks (those greater than one ton, but less than tractor-trailer rigs which go by the label "heavy duty"). I have not personally verified the regulation, but it has inherent logic.

Good questions I want to know what the GVW is on those forged aluminum wheels I bought as an option. I have been loading my HD2500 right up to the GVW of the truck but I absolutely did not want dual wheels. So I'm thinking mayby I have to invest in some Alcoa wheels as well and beef up the tires I'll add a leaf to the springs if I have to as well. I've been led to believe that the chassis and front end are the same as the dual wheel 3500 so beefing up the tires, wheels(maybe) and springs should do the job.Stu

Does anyone have the rating for the stock wheels that came on the 2500HD trucks. Mine has the steel wheels. I put the 265 / E rated tire on the truck. These tires are rated at 3415 lbs. I hope the rim is good for that load. Thanks, Jim

I'll go look on my take-offs, but IIRC the lb'age is stamped on the wheel. Never heard of the 3500 lbs for 8 lug rule. Would have been nice.....I wouldn't have had to fork out the money on new wheels.

I don't know the OEM steel or aluminum wheel ratings...but, the Alcoa Hotshots for the DRW applications 8 bolt/16" x 6.5" are rated at 2780 lbs/wheel :(

I just rechecked mine ;) and they are stamped 6600lbs per... :eek: :D
