Aloha,

Do any of the gauge pillar companies use a design that replaces the stock pillar instead of a gauge pillar that overlays the stock pillar?

If not, is the Autometer overlay pillar a good fit?

Also, I can't seem to locate the DP techtip on how to install the gauges. Where can I find it?

Thanks,
Corey

Don't know of any that are a replacement for the stock A-pillar cover. The Autometer Gaugeworks piece is an overlay, but fits fairly well. You'll just have to go through the trouble of painting it to match (it comes molded in black).

Rather than using screws to affix it to the stock pillar, I used 3M urethane adhesive/sealant (like the kind used to install windshields) to glue the gauge pod on. It's working quite well, so far!

Don't know about the last item, so I can't be of any help there. Try using the search button for more threads that might lead you to what you're looking for.

As far as I know all of them overlay the original. I don't have a full pillar, just the 2 gauge pod but it does fit good anyway.

The gauge install article is in paperback now. Contact MP for a copy if you need it.

My autometer single pod fit well, but I never got a good paint match. Even with pillar in hand 4 different places couldnt match it.

No one make a full pillar replacement...only a full pillar cover is available.

My Autometer 2 guage pod fit perfectly in place of the original piller cover. I DID NOT mount it over the original. Had to drill a hole for the tweeter.

Paint matched perfectly. Go to your local Dupont automotive paint supplier. They sell a spray-on paint-like plastic intended for interior work. VERY EXPENSIVE as I recall, but great. I looked at their color samples, and actually got it right the first time. Instead of messing up my good spray gun, I just bought a little disposable aerosol sprayer, which worked just fine.

After looking at Hoots pic, I must say Autometer DOES in fact make a full piller cover replacement, because I believe I have one. Going to try and post a pic.
Here is where I bought mine:

BTW, no one has ever asked me why it's black and the interior is grey.

I'll bite, why is it black?

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will go with a 3-gauge set up, (EGT, boost, and oil temp). I am going to try to design it so that I can read diff/trans case temp off of the oil temp gauge with a switch.

Has anyone used Auto Meter's Z series? It looks like they are the closest match to the factory gauges.

They all come black. You paint them yourself to match. I'm lazy and/or I like the utility look.

I've got the Z-Series gauges, and they do match the factory one fairly well.

Is an A-pillar mounted speaker an option for 2003?

My 2001 does not have a speaker mounted in the A-pillar. I would need a speaker only pod for the passenger side. Does anybody make that?

There is a tweeter mounted on the A-pillar cover when you have the Bose sound system.

Will a 2003 passenger side A-pillar cover with speaker hole fit a 2001?
