Now that its cold and I have my winter grill cover on I find that the outside temperature probe must be inside the engine compartment somewhere because my temp guage (in mirror)generally reads much higher than the actual outside temperature.

Dealer says it because the outside air is blocked by the winter cover.

Well that was smart on GM's part. Especiall since they warn you to remove the cover when the outside temp is greater than 30 degrees. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to use the temperature display in the truck to do that????What do these people think when they are designing this stuff?

Anyone know where this temp probe is and whether I can move it where it will continue to be in "outside" air, even with my winter grill cover on???

akrockhound,

I've never looked around an '03, but on my '01 the temp probe was easy to find by removing the plastic trim piece covering the top of the radiator at the very front of the engine bay. The sensor had enough wire to relocate it so that it was in the airflow with the winter cover on. A nearby already present hole accepted the plastic fastener and bracket without drilling. IIRC, there was a TSB on this for the '01 trucks.

I realize this is not an exact description of where the sensor is on your '03, but you should be able to identify it easily - try looking where the airflow is blocked with the cover on...

I moved mine down to the plastic "splash plate" and have had good results there...
