I have the oportunity of changing my 14K Reese hitch for a side-to-side 15K model. What are the pros and cons of the two types.

The 4 way swivel one are a lot better. They will pivot from side to side to eliminate binding when trying to hook-up on uneven surfaces, like when you back the trailer onto blocks to level it.

Railbuff:

Your 14K hitch requires 6" of clearance between the trailer overhang and the truck bed rails. A swivel hitch requires 8.5". If you don't have that much clearance your trailer can "tap" your truck. I know, I found out the hard way backing up my driveway when my trailer leveled out on the flat area when my truck was still backing up the hill. Fortunately, my bed rails are coated (Linex) and all I got was a paint spot from the trailer.
