I've been looking for a "low profile" behind the cab chrome plated storage box with integrated roll-up (aluminum/vinyl) bed cover.

I pull a 5'er and need a low profile box so It doesn't come in contact with the trailer during sharp turns. When I'm not towing, I would like secure the bed with a strong roll-up bed cover. In my recent travels to Montana, I seen a few Dmax CC's with a nice low chrome plated profile truck box with what appeared to be an intergated roll top bed cover made of black vinyl coated aluminum skin. The problem is, I haven't been able to determine who makes these? What really impressed me was how nice these units looked and how strong the cover was! The bed cover was made of a strong vinyl coated flexible aluminum material and rolled up inside the box. Does anyone know who makes this kind of set-up? I found some high profile box designs in searching the web, but none in a low profile ( bed rail height) with the integrated bed roll up cover?

FisHn2Dmax,

Check out ROLL-n-LOCK'S (http://www.rollnlock.com) retractable cover. They have a new DIAMOND PLATE PATTERN (http://www.rollnlock.com/diamondplate.html). The Rnl cover is made of aluminum slats covered in vinyl. You could mount a tool box at the front of the bed, then the RnL. IIRC, the RnL canister is about 10" wide.

Although I think the tool box is to high. My toolbox is only about 1 1/2 incles aboue the bed....and I've hit the corner of it on the 5th wheeler. It was a light hit, but did break into the fiberglass just a touch.

It has a roll-up aluminum base with an acrylic fabric covering. I had one on my 98 K3500 that worked well. For my 2500HD (http://community.webshots.com/photo/72251092/72251351AioGxu) I bought a ReTrax (http://www.rolltopcover.com) from JK which is even better (IMHO). The ReTrax is made with aluminum reinforced Lexan and sealed roller bearings. The ReTrax site also shows an install with a toolbox. (http://www.rolltopcover.com/fit.asp) smile.gif

Thanks for all your responses! I like the bed cover options from Roll-n-lock, Pace-edwards and especially the Retrax. My problem is I have a short box, When I consider the width of a low profile box, then add the 10" for the roll-up bed cover canister, I think I'm going to be too close to my 5'er hitch? Anyone out there have with a 5'er have a bed box and then added a roll-up cover?

FisHn2DMax the exact issues I had. Because of that and the expense of the roll top I decided to not do it. I put in a Truck Trunk tool box and had a custom sized diesel tank below it. I still wish I had a cover for the bed, but I simply could not figure how to get all I wanted in the space I had with a short bed. I you figure out something, let me know....for the new time.

Check this out too - I have a 5er and just installed the one with out the toolbox. This was just released (I'm one of the first tongue.gif ) The original has been around for a while but the low pro is brand new. In fact I think it was a SEMA in Vegas.

Insalled mine on my own in under 30mins - Could have done it in 10-15 with an extra pair of hands.. Fits and looks great. So far so good.

The Pace Edwards is ok.. I had it on my other truck. Easy to use, but a bizatch to maintain. You may also want to check clearence hight when closed from the top of your hitch - Mine clears ok - but a few inches lower on the rails and you wouldn't be able to close the Pace. A roll(up) top would still clear.

I have a vinal Access Cover. I have used it on my last three short bed Dmax's. It rolls nicely over my custom built 75 gal fuel and also rolls up and sits on the bed rails when I'm 5th wheeling. It costs about $400 and does everything I want it to do.
