Does anybody know of a national company that has the equipment to blance trailer tires? Most trailer tires are centered around the lug holes and most automotive wheel balancers are centered on the rims center opening. I am having trouble in the Raleigh, NC area finding a company that has a machine that can truly balance trailer tires.... Jim

JEBar, you will just have to call every shop in your area and ask if they have the special attachment to handle non hub centric rims. I finally found one in my area after much searching.

Any machine can balance the tires the way you want them balanced. They need to be using the adaptor that mounts the tire by the lug holes instead of the center hole. Now how many shops have that adaptor?? Who knows. Let your fingers do the walking and call shops until you find one with an adaptor.

That said I'm not really sure you need to worry about it. Unless your rims are very poorly made balancing the tire by the center hole should be just fine even if your trailer wheels are not hubcentric.

I read a post on the RVnet from Dexter Axle about this issue. They said that the difference between the two methods would amount to less a 1/4 ounce of wieght and that most balance machines are calibrated to the nearest 1/4 oz. so it would make no difference.

If you really want the tires balanced well rather than worry about how the wheel mounts on the machine look at the machine that will be used. There is quite a difference in machines out there these days. This one is the latest and the greatest.

The problem is that in most cases only new car dealers have them in my area.

Goodyear (franchised) dealers in my area have the lug centric adapters.
