Auxiliary tank...

I'ved got a new C/C 2500HD on the way. I'm accustomed to long mileage between fillup's with my Suburban & am considering another tank in the bed.

What are the disavantages, besides loss of space?

Where can I purchase one of these & how difficult are they to install?

I have a 42 gal tank/toolbox combo I bought from Northern Tool and Equiptment. They had the best price. I had to buy a valve and float kit from Auxiliary Truck Accessories in Garland, TX. They were the only one I could find that would sell me the installation kit without buying the tank from them. The kit includes a 6 port valve, guage float, hoses, clamps, etc and instructions. It is not hard to install. The hardest part is cutting a section out of the factory stainless steel lines and mounting the valve. It really is not that difficult to do though. Run wires and mount switch. The valve is necessary to flow return fuel back to the tank it came from and it allows you to select the tank and keeps each tank as a separate system. I really like my set up. With the 26 gal factory tank and 42 gallon aux tank and about 50-50 hwy and in town driving I can run about 1000 miles. Last fillup was 1083 miles. I bought the Transfer Flow 45 Gallon tank for my truck. I didnt what to shorten the 6' Bed. It seems to work out real well 400 miles still 1/2 Tank. I also bought the big filler neck it seems to fill alittle faster that way. Alittle costly but so was the truck.

I too bought the 50 gal. from Northern Hyd. I think it was made by Handy. Took an elect. fuel pump and elect. selector valve, plumbed them in parrall with the valve first. Took out the filler neck and soldered in a 5/16 hose barb. Now the aux. tank fills the factory tank when needed. Very simple instalation and you don't have to mess with the factory plumbing.

I did the same as 1822 did this summer, except I used a Utilimaster tank..

Thanks guys! That's exactly the info I need to make a decision. I just ordered a bunch of stuff today for the '03 & might as well add a aux. tank to the list.

I had the 115 gal tank installed last month. Sure is nice when I can drive by the high priced stations and really fill up at the lower stations (GA. IN. OK...).

You should see the tanks on my other "truck".
