View Full Version : CUMMINS CONVERSION TAKING PLACE NOW!
Hello Diesel Page Members:
My chevy was delivered to Ken at AutoWorld in Montana saturday. Ken and Dwana have a spotless shop and Kens expertise in the conversion process is as good as it gets. This guy is a perfectionist and fabulous mechanic. He has a machinst build all the conversion parts better than the aftermarket parts.
I'll pick it up December 27th and let you know what its like.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FELL FREE TO STOP IN AT KENS AND MONITOR THE PROJECT, HE IS FINISHING AN 1988 SUBURBAN WITH AN 05 CUMMINS FROM TEXAS. LOOKS REALLY GOOD
Moedog
Do you now off a web-page where one could get more info about the Cummins and the conversion you are doing?
What gearbox are you going to use and will it work to use the 700r4?
do a search on cummins conversions or repowers and you should come up with some articles. nv4500 or nv5600 manuel is recommended. autos are mostly to weak for the massive instant torq. of the cummins. hope this helpps
Moedog
Do you have any idea off what's the average mileage of the 5.9 comparing to the 6.2
12 valve, 17 to 23 mpg. 24 valve, a little less. 400000 to 500000+ on rebuilds if taken care of. 89 to 98.5 model year non-computer. 1998.5 and newer, more computer each year and more expensive to rebuild.
well lets hear about the big swap project. That would be awesome. I have a buddy who just picked up a 97 cummins with tranny and transfer case to put into a very nice 81-87 crewcab dually that he did frame up, every nut and bolt

moedog's truck is still up on jack stands, they have worked around the tranny and torsion bar wanting to live in the same space. All the running gear is in and they are working on the radditor and intercooler mounting when I dropped in on the evening of 12/28 they are talking like "maybe" done sometime next week.
The next repower Auto World has lined up is a 2005 ford with 6.0 PS to be replaced by a Cummins 325hp engine. It's out of California, must be nice buy a new truck and swap power plants in it for grins and gigles.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!!
moedogs Truck is DONE. I went in to Auto World to get an Auxilary fuel tank installed and the was green dually chevy pickup siting out front with Cummings badge on it with Colorado tags. I took a few minutes too look it over. When you open the hood there is a 5.9L Cummins that looks like it belongs in the engine bay (other than the red paint. Dan I think your going to be happy with the quality of the fabrication work. Everything is first class IMHO. It looks like I will be headed south....you know..I'm driving through the Dever, Colorado springs area too bad there isn't UHaul trailers to put a pickup on. Call me maybe we should talk about this???

That must be incredible! I checked out that web page you listed and saw all the pictures of trucks done,a lot of chevy's with ifs, thats good to know it can handle the extra weight,I've heard talk that the IFS cant handle it,but mine is extremely stiff, with the plow prep and me never having a plow.My 6.5 runs strong but when it wears out this cummins place looks like a definate possibility. Do you have a web adress for them?I could only reveiw that one page, and I would love to see more, and some prices.Good luck with your new motor.

The adress is pretty simple: http://www.autoworldmt.com/
I was talking with Ken yesterday and the guy who is swapping out the PS 6.0 is selling it which recovers most of the Enigne cost. I think the cost of the swap charges depends on truck, Cummins Engine ect. The 12 valve is the lowest cost and the new 325hp engine is highest. Ken only does one at time and he has had one in his shop all the time for the last 15+ years, so if you really want to do better get in line.

Totally cool! It's definitely an option if you have to replace your engine. Where does the intercooler go, same place as where we put it for the 6.5? Do they install one with the Cummings install or is this all depending on what the customer wants?
Art.
Ken fits the full size cummins intercooler same place as the dodge factory does. I promise you its better than factory engineers. This guy is the real deal.
