I've been researching some new wheels for the Dmax so I can safely sport/tow with 285's. i've been looking at the following wheels:

Weld Super Single II (forged)
Mickey Thompson Classic (forged & made by Alcoa)
Mickey Thompson Classic II (cast)

the weld's and the MT classic's retail for about 250 a piece, whereas the MT Classic II's retail for about half that. i'll definately be pulling some weight and running E rated tires.

Where have you guys found the best mail-order prices on rims? Also I need some tires: 285x75x16 E Rated that work decent in the sand/mud but aren't tooo loud. My old 35" BFG M/T howled like a F-16 on the flight deck!

Opinions, comments, recommendations?

Thanks as always! :D :D :D

Has anyone used the interco trxus m/t? how loud are they on the road? what type of tread life do you get?

I wouldn't buy Weld again - mine creak. Spoke with a tire and suspension outfit last week and it seems that others are having the same problem. There was a F**d in there and they were removing a new set of Weld wheels which were guilty of creaking.

I think the new Centerlines look pretty nice.

I may have a set of M/T Classic II's for sale shod with Yokohama Geolander 285's. But shipping charges may wipe out any savings you might be getting. Last time I checked with UPS they wanted something like $60 to $70 to ship just one. The tires and wheels have a total of 2000 miles on em.

Try Four Wheel Parts Wholesalers, they;ll put together a tire/wheel package for you at a good price. They have always been able to beat most anyones prices on the net or otherwise, good people to work with too.

Thanks for all the input. I actaully threw down for a set (5) of Weld Outback's today from summit. They only charge 7.95 extra for the whole order which includes shipping. plus NO TAX!

I ordered the tires from 4 wheel parts as the shipping on tires was a bit much. i ordered the Interco TrXus tires, 285x75x15. Hopefully i won't have any clearance issues. I'll have the wheels in a week or so and the tires tomorrow. they were one of the few E Rated 10-ply tires i could find in a 285. they only set me back $135 each.

ndamico,

Congrats on the Trxus, now you can tell me how you like them. :D
Been looking at them myself. Can't find anything with decent tread with E-rating.
I know, some guys are going to recommend "brand x" for a tire, but I need some traction.
I figure any tire, like Trxus, with awesome tread isn't going to last. Fine, I'll settle for 15,000 mi. Too bad we didn't only need C-rating...... Remember how many choices there were for tires?

4 wheel parts told me to expect 40k on the TrXuS tires... i'll believe it when i see it...i'm thinking more like 20K until they howl too much to stand! I'll post some pics etc. once i get them installed!

ndamico,

Any idea if all Trxus are E-rated.
I'm looking for 255-85-16, can't swing the new rims. Wasn't able to find load ratings on Interco site.
20k miles! That would be fine w/me!

Mackey,

the load ratings vary on the rest of the TrXuS line. The link below has the info in it:

http://www.intercotire.com/html/body_trxus_mt_sts.htm

I just checked and the 255x85x16 is D rated. the only other E rated (besides my 285x75x16) is the 235...

now if my rims would just show up! i wanna get this show on the road!
