Received the SPA211 gauge in the mail today. Well I read all the posts and handy hints about installing boost and EGT gauges and I thought I was ready until I read the instructions. I understand where to mount the EGT sensor by tapping the exhaust manifold on the pax side but the boost sensor has me. All the discussion is about cutting into the waste gate rubber line but that doesn't seem like it will work. The instructions lead you to welding a boss on a metal tube which has a flat surface so the "dowty seal" will seat on the pipe and tap for a 1/8 BSP. What is BSP?

The quick and easy way is to cut the wastegate hose and install a brass "T" with 2 barbs and 1/8 NPT (pipe) threads. Screw the sensor into the 1/8 threaded "T". It will monitor boost levels, all the way up to where the wastegate opens. Make sure you have a ground wire securely fastened to the sensor. This will monitor boost pre-intercooler.

The hard way is to drill and tap 1/8" NPT into the intake manifold, after the blue hose leading from the intercooler. This will ground the sensor and give actual boost levels post-intercooler. It's a royal pain to drill and tap in that area and ensure no debris enters the engine, so most go for the wastegate hose.

BSP is the same as NPT, or close it enough it doesn't matter. ;) .

Forget about the Dowty seal. I went through that BS with them. I told them I didn't get this "Dowty" thing. They said it's no longer used on these applications but they haven't updated the instructions. They probably use the seal in aircraft or military applications.

My gauge is a DG-111. The old style. Looks like they aren't bothering with updates on the instructions.

You don't need it as long as you seal the pipe thread. I used anti-seize compond on them. Check out my pics. I did the welded boss deal.
