View Full Version : Busted hose for boost gauge!

Okay, due to poor installation (on my part), my harness with the pyro wires and the boost tubing came loose and came to rest on the rear of the exhaust manifold! The pyro wires were not damaged, but the black shrink-wrap stuff around them was snug as a bug! The boost tubing got the worst of the deal as it melted through.
I went to Home Depot and Lowe's today looking for some sort of brass union for reapiring the boost tubing. Nothing that small available there. Do you think I could simply tape the two pieces of the tubing together real well with some eletrical tape and all would be okay? Should I get some shrink wrap and join them that way? Or is there a better way to splice that real small tube back together?
TIA

Go to a parts house & get a tubing kit for a oil press guage. Its the same & has all the compression fittings you'll need along with tubing.

How far away is Diesel Injection Service for you? They have several locations in Texas.
I ordered my gauges with tubing and fittings from them, and they may have unions, or else pull a new piece of tubing. Maybe they could "next day" deliver.

DIS is not too far away for me (across town). That is where I bought the gauges. I have plenty of tubing. As a matter of fact, I have it coiled under the dash right now! I was really hoping to simply splice it so I wouldn't have to pull the pillar apart and get to the fitting on the back of the gauge in an effort to replace the entire tube.
Its a good suggestion about getting in touch with them. I will probably call them today and see what they say. Thanks!

Check with Autozone...I went down yesterday to find the "barrel" the the boost hose slides through in the connector at the gauge and I could not believe all the fittings they had! They might have something to help you splice.
My gauge install went well last weekend except I used the 1/2" bit instead of the 7/16" to drill my exhaust manifold!!! Thank goodness for NPT!!! I was able to tap it out and get my egt mounted with a few threads to spare!!!
How about cutting it off and using up some of the excess coil. I hate to splice that flimsy tubing. Auto Parts house should have the compression glands in stock...

I am actually planning to check that first. Would rather use up the excess than have it coiled up waiting to get snagged anyway.
