Warn Winch Mounting - 2500HD

Just got a new D/A 2500HD 4x4 last month. Searched here in the forum and only found one post that showed pictures (of a 15000lb Warn) but the link didn't work. Should have them up in a week or two. If anyone might happen to have any pictures of 2500HD/3500's with a Transformer/Rio Grande mounting system, could you post a working link? Thanks

Check mine out - I've got the Rio Grande with a Mile Marker hydraulic winch installed.

bbugg, how much did the Rio Grande Stainless steel set you back? I'm looking at about $500 for the Trans4mer Grill guard, brush guards, and winch carrier in black. I'm sure the stainless is quite a bit higher.

I have a 15000lb Warn mounted on my 3500...mount much like TxDoc but is stainless/crome with 3 bars in the headlight brush guards...sorry no pictures, don't have the computer knowledge to post them...well pleased with appearance and operation of the winch and mounting ;)

With the snatch block I can pull 30000lbs. (so they say)

Only problem I ever encounter when winching another vehicle out of a stuck position is "locking" my truck so it doesn't slide across the ground.

Depending on your battery or batteries! You draw 460 Amps at 15,000 pounds.

I always use a snatch block as it can double your pulling power, but it will mean the winch "sees" half of what you are actually pulling--depending on whether you are on the drum or multiple wraps. I will take half the line speed for the reduction of strain on the motor and less heat buildup.

Best mod I ever have had and will always have.

Try some wheel chocks:

or, if close, you can tie off from your frame hitch to a tree.

If any of you are serious winch users you may want to look into a Mico brake lock. It's a service brake line lock that can be installed to set the regular brakes. They have rear only and 4 wheel setups for pickups. The rear only model I checked on was around $200.00 plus installation.

I don't seem to be able to locate Warn part#s for the Rio Grande (stainless) mounting system for a '02 3500.

In fact, their website indicates that only the Trans4mer type mount is available for the '01+ 2500HD/3500s...

bbugg, you do seem to have the Rio Grande, so I guess it is available. Could it be that Warn's site (and all the vendors) are not up to date?

The Trans4mer also is available in chrome if thats what you want. It costs alot more.

I went with the black. But I wasn't going for looks...I actually use my truck for work not for show or play.
If you still really want to go with the chrome....you will have to call and email WARN and there dealers to get the information.
Unless WARN has put new parts out the Rio is not available for the Gm 3500 2001+. And when I say Rio I mean the mounting hardware for the 15000lb winch.

Good luck.....and if you do install a winch on your truck make sure you read all safety WARNings. And be very carefull when winching(although I am sure you already have lotsa winching experience)

Looking at your pics, is that heavy front plate part of the mounting? Would this piece be chromed for the chrome version, or is there a chrome plate that mounts on the outside?

Looking back at bugg's images, I see that he's not running a M15000, so that must be why he was able to get a Rio Grande for a '01+ HD?

Anyway, I'll give Warn a call after the holidays and see wazzup.

Good luck c5dura...I donno what your gonna be using the winch for....But when Warn came out with the 15k it fit my application. The trans4mer installed is especially for the 15k winch. It is real heavy duty. There is so much extra metal in there. I am really impressed with the mounting hardware. My truck weighs over 8200 pounds empty.(full tank and me with a can of soda in my hand. It was hard findin all the parts and stuff but worth the wait. I have used the winch many times and feel confident every time. If you ever have any questions...ask away...because I love winches and that kinda stuff. My Sportsman 700 has a 2500lb warn winch that I installed.
