big tires on my 01 2500HD

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF 315-75-16 TIRES WILL FIT MT 01 2500HD--4WD WITH STOCK RIMS AND NO LIFT. IM REALLY LOOKING FOR THE BIGGEST ON ROAD TIRE I CAN INSTALL WITH THE TRUCK IN STOCK FORM. IM NOT A OFF ROADER BUT I DO ALOT OF HEAVY DUTY TOWING

There are all sorts of posts for bigger tires. The largest tires you can get on stock PYO rims are 265's. After that you should start thinking of new rims to go with tires that are larger than 265's. I currently have M/T classic II 16x8 rims with 285 tires. Check the link below and you can see what they look like. I had to adjust the torsion bars about 3 turns and trim about 3/8" off the lower air dam. Absolutely no problems with rubbing.

I've seen a post somewhere where a guy put 315s on stock wheels w/ 8 turns of the torsion bars. We have put 285s on stock rims here at our dealership. You will get all kind of info but personally I would go w/ a wider rim for a tire that is 12.5 inches wide. My tires rub a tad if I hit a bump during a sharp turn.

I have 285-75-16 BFG's on the stock rims. I think that they are to small and I have ordered Centerline 16x8 rims to replace them. I turned the T-bars 5 turns and cut the lower air dam they fit great. I would love to stick some 305 or 315 under there but I think for it to look right I would have to lift it at least 4". good luck, Bill

I've got Bridgestone 285/75R16 Dueler ATs on mine with the factory forged wheels. No problems and no suspension mods, though I'll probably switch to a different brand of tire next time. I wanted Michellin but they didn't make anything bigger than 265s. All I did is use a heat gun to reshape the driver's side plastic fender lining a little. Passenger side needed no mods... IMO, anything bigger would require suspension changes and/or clearancing plus wider wheels...

Steve, Thank's for the offer, sorry I think that I want to keep them just in case of a problem with the dealer down the road. I want to be able to go back to stock if I need warranty work done. My dealer has told me that the 285's might void the warranty.

Why do you want to go back to stock rims have you had some problems that I should know about before I get My Centerline 16x8 rims. Please let Me know if there is a something that I not getting.

I want to go back to stock because these polished aluminum rims are high maintenance. They look great after they get a fresh polish, but after several weeks they start to get a dull/haze due to the salt air?? or touchless carwash chemicals??

I have seen a HD with 315's and it is a very tight fit. I have 305's with no trimming of the air dam and they do not rub. These are on stock rims but I have ordered a set of 295/75/16 that are taller but not as wide. The 295's should also fit my rims better and get more miles.

Most of the 285's meausure 33" off the vehicle. Now if your measuring the tire on the vehicle from the ground up then you would have to take into account the vehicles weight, which makes the bottom of the tire flatter, which is where you are probably getting your 31" measurement.

If you do a lot of HD towing you need to also look at the Load rating of the tires. There are not a lot of "E" tires made bigger than 265/75/16 and fewer in 17" form. There is a sizable weight limit difference between "C" to "E" load.

The factory 245s are rated @ 3042. Nitto has quite few D (some may be Es)heavy rated tires) I was impressed with the 18's I saw.

Thanks, Jelisfc. I decided on 285-70-17 BF all Terrains for now, next time I will deal with a bigger tire. I should be able to get them mounted tomorrow, I hope they look good. The wheels arrived today and they are really nice.

Nitto does make a 305/70/16 load range E tire at $160 from Discount tire freight included. I have about 1,000 miles on a set. Great A/T tire, quiet, super strong 10 PR casing, good tread depth, and a ridge around the casing to protect your rim edge in rocks, etc. I tried them out the other day in some clay sloshy mud and was very suprised - they worked well. Load range is 3550 which is the highest I have seen except for the Interco Trxus mud tire. I am really impressed with the quality of the tire for the money and hope it will go a few miles. I have them on 8" Welds with no clearance problems, but I do have a 4" Rancho lift to keep from dragging my Transflo tank as much. Great tire.
