One of the first things I added to my truck was Husky Molded Mudflaps. They fit well and looked nice, but they were not low enough to keep tire spray from hitting the lower side of the body. Since I don’t take my truck off road, I thought I would try extending them. To do this I cut some standard truck 24x30 mudflaps in half and fitted them to the huskies using

Looks pretty good Bill, does not have the "Grandpa" look like I thought ;)

Looks great.

I used to have the Huskies all the way around but the curved in look of the rear ones, from the rear, drove me nuts. I gave them away and bought GM flaps that are nice and square but slightly molded. Still have the Huskies up front though cause they look fine. You can't really tell I have different brands and the rear ones exactly span my new 12.5 wide tires.

Great idea, jbplock. I've been toying with the idea for a few weeks now...after I looked at the bottom of my rockers. I have since installed Luverne boards, but still get a little spray on the front door. I touched up a few rock chips on the rear fender, and will spray on Chip Guard this weekend. The Husky extensions will be coming shortly.

Thanks for the feedback! smile.gif
And HD-Nate, LOL... I'm glad they are "UN-Grandpa" looking. :D My dad was always putting Rube Goldberg stuff on his cars so I know what you mean by the "Grandpa Look"

FWIW, Here are some pics of a recent mod I made to my husky mudflap extensions (http://community.webshots.com/album/72366296bnboMY): rear-view (http://community.webshots.com/photo/72366296/90284274qTnbUY), front-view (http://community.webshots.com/photo/72366296/90284448JFPJfB)

Earlier this summer I was driving on some muddy dirt roads in PA and I found that the back wheels were throwing mud on top of the running boards. Debris coming off the top of the back wheel was being throne forward into the fender well and then dropping down on the boards. I realized that this would also be the case with snow this winter (I didn’t have the running boards on last winter). So, adding these covers on the inside front of the rear wheel wells seems to prevent this – and hopefully it doesn’t have the “grandpa look” ... HD-Nate, does it pass the test? :D

P.S. This may also might add some protection for those who have fuel filters mounted in the fender well...

jbplock,

Nice work! I did a similar install (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=000764#000000) on my 3500 last November. Click here (http://community.webshots.com/album/59648586EDhnHS)to see the pics, or choose the first link in my sig.

Mdrag, Very nice install! Great looking truck too...

Where did you get your mudflaps. They look very similar to the ones I used. I can't find them any more around here. I would like to use something similar to cover the gap between the front bumper and the front wheel-well liner.

jbplock,

I used SAFEPASS 175 (http://www.mudflapsfortrucks.com/store/safepass175.html) flaps for the front of the opening, and SAFEPASS 375 GROOVED (http://www.mudflapsfortrucks.com/store/safepass375.html) for the rear of the wheel opening. The grooves help to minimize water spray.

The 24" x 24" Safepass 175 are $11.50 pair and the 24" x 24" Safepass 375 @ $19.00 pair. They offer 24" x 30" and 24" x 36" sizes. There is also a SAFEPASS GRASS BACKED FLAP (http://www.mudflapsfortrucks.com/store/safepass.html) that has an 'plastic grass' surface on the wheel side to further minimize water spray.

I ordered one pair each of the 24" x 24" 175 and 375 - spares if I messed up and not sure which I was going to use or how...After fitting the rear of the wheel opening with the 375 flap and having the 175 flaps left over, the thought occured to use them on the front of the wheel opening.

These flaps are fairly stiff, but flex enough if they hit something to prevent damage to the truck. Mine have been on since 11/2002 and are holding up extrremely well.

jbplock yours look a little more custom than the ones I made up a couple years ago. I did it for the same reason you stated . After two winters mine are still holding together..
