Mothers Aluminum Polish,

Once a week...........keep them out of the salty winter months.

I learned the hard way. It took me two hours per wheel to clean them up from winter in CT, now I know what to do to get them looking new and keep them looking new.

My total investment was $40.00 for all polishes and buffing wheels .

GMC,
How big of a buffer wheel are you using? This sounds like a good option...I was whipped after waxing the truck and polishing the wheels by hand a couple weeks ago! Thanks.

Silver Bullet,

I bought the wheels and rouge from Eastwood. I bought a bunch of different sizes and grades so I can do just about any metal.

I am using a MAKITA vari-speed buffer for the 4" and 6" round buffs. You will need a spiral and a loose buff for wheels plus the rouge. Tripoli is the 1st step w/ spiral buff and white rouge is 2nd step with the loose buff.

The directions said 3500 rpms max, my buffer maxes at 2850 rpms and that was more than fast enough.

For small hard to get areas I bought cone buffs. For this I used my vari-speed Roto-Zip at 2500 or 3000 rpms. You cannot mix the buffs with different rouges so you need to buy enough stuff to keep them seperate for each rouge.

My wheels took a beating from the winter salt here in CT. I first used 00 steel wool with Blaster,it's like WD-40 to clean the grime off. I washed the wheels with DAWN and then used 0000 steel wool with WD-40 washing with DAWN again.

After that they were spotless and smooth, just dull. The rest was easy with the buffs. You must wash them thouroughly with DAWN between steps and the final buff with white rouge with a light misting of water is supposed to seal the aluminum better. I finished them with Mothers polish and some ZAINO just for a little extra shine.

PICS are in the duramax link below. Just a bunch of little water spots after I washed them for some quick pics to post.

Hey,

One more thing, the M&T wheels I have are raw uncoated aluminum so be aware that you can't polish unless you strip the clear off. The stock PYO's have a clear coat and should hold up fine with minimal upkeep.

Just in case anyone thought I was polishing stock wheels. :D
