How do you connect your trailer wires...
(1) the plug by the receiver
(2) use an "extension" to run from the plug by the receiver into the bed
(3) tap into the wiring someplace other than the plug by the receiver
If the answer was "3", please explain a little more...where you ran the wires through the bed, where you tapped into the trucks wiring, etc.
Thanks!

If your truck came with the factory trailer option, which most HD's did, you will have wires ready. Along the frame on the drivers side, there are wires specifically for a 5th Wheel/Goose Neck plug that would be placed in the bed. The wiring color code is in the manual. Just get yourself a 7 prong, or whatever style receiver you need from Wally World and bolt it on the inside of your bed... either in front of the tire hump or behind. Usually takes a 1.5 inch hole saw and a couple of sheet metal screws and your all complete.

Thanks Muscle.
I got under it tonight and I found nothin'!!! I pulled out my window sticker and checked to see what option I have in regards to this...I have "Trailer Provisions" (Z82). If I had "Options for Wiring Provisions Camper" (UY2) I would be set. It looks like I get to do a little creative wiring to meet my needs!

They sell a t-connector at AutoZone or from Manny Moe & Jack for under $20 that will plug right into your brake light wiring harness & have a 4-way flat output... you can tap into the receiver plug wires for the rest of the wiring, just be sure to have a good ground connection.
FWIW, I've never heard of anyone having trouble because they plugged their gooseneck into the receiver plug, but for some reason having the plug in the bed just makes me feel better. Mine is on the driver's side of the bed, just behind the wheel hump.
If you didn't want to do any splicing of existing wires, you can get the harness for the UY2 option for either the dealer or online. The GM part number is 15072794.
Just another idea...

4x4,
I like your setup. Does 15072794 come with the plug you have mounted inside your bed? Where does the harness connect to the existing wiring? Thanks.
Steve,
You don't get the end for the trailer. The harness plugs in behind your hitch connector. Just unplug the connector from the back and plug this harness in it's place. Hard to explain in writing but easy enough to do. Swing by a dealer and take a look at a truck with the harness factory installed. A pic of the harness is located here. http://www.pbase.com/akdmax/5th_wheel_harness
Steve,
Sorry for the late reply...What AKDMax said about the harness is right on. You can go to Wally World or trailer supply place and pick up the plug you will need for the bed for around $10. Then all you need to do is strip the 7 wires on the end of the harness and attach them to the terminals inside the plug. While the harness isn't the cheapest solution, it is the cleanest..
If you want, I can snap some pics of the harness as it sits in the truck this afternoon. My truck came with the harness installed already, so I don't exactly know where it plugs in. Just let me know.

Thanks AKDmax and 4x4.
Correct me if I am wrong here...the wiring harness will plug in more or less in-line at my receiver. Receiver plug will still work. I can run the wiring harness back up the frame run through my "custom" hole I have CAREFULLY drilled inside my bed in front of the DS wheel well. I can connect the wires to a plug that is similar to the plug connected to my receiver which I can pick up at Wally World...right???
AKDmax - I have not had a chance to look at my truck or owner's manual for the wiring diagram yet, so I will go ahead and ask...in the pic http://www.pbase.com/image/7283058 ...what is the small connector or that particular wire for and does it have an existing place to connect?
Steve-
You are correct, the harness plugs in underneath the bed and does not disable the plug under the bumper, it will still work. Then you can install a plug similar to the one under your bumper and install it in your carefuly cut hole in the bed. :D
Bob
electric brakes. Yes there is a place for it to plug in. Only if you already have the 7 pin in the back.

After looking at it last night it looks like a no brainer to get the harness connected. Now I have my info, but I have to wait to see if this project is going to happen. Thanks for your help!
