Toolbox mounting bracket for GM bed rails?

I just bought a couple of WeatherGuard low side toolboxes for my short box truck with Rhino Linings bed spray on it. I remember someone said that the GM bed box sheet metal rails are thin and that the J brackets for mounting tooboxes would bend the rails. Someone told me that GM have a free brackets kit to prevent this problem. Anyone know about this? Thanks!

I have had three sets of WeatherGuard tool boxes. There are three things I have done to "ADD" stability and durability to the boxes. The first thing I did was get 2 extra "J Hooks" for each side. Adding the J-Hooks will help hold the boxes "without" dimpling the lower edge of the bed. Note: when mounting, keep the J-Hooks as parralle as possible and do not over torque. The second thing I did was find a rubber speicalty shop. I use a natarual rubber of 1/4 inch thick to absorb shockload and twisting on the bedrails. Thirdy, I use a 5x5x1/4 Alunmium plate "under" the bed for support. ;)
--------- I do not know about the "free brackets" from GM. :rolleyes: I never had a problem out of my trucks rails.

Here is the information. The Kit is not free. Even though it says 1999 to 2001 it fit my 2002 and I believe it will fit the 2003s. The key is RPO E63.

et - That is the kit I am talking about. I just was not sure if it exists or not. But I like the Burner's idea - it sounds like a better method to reinforce the truck bed and rails.

Burner - where did you get the "J" bolts? I have been searching through Home Depot and they dont have the right one. They do have something that looks like "J" but it is more like of a hook. I know that it won't work right because I tried that on Toyota truck years ago and it bent the bed rails pretty good.

Also are you referring to natural or neoprene rubber? What are they? I am no rubber specialist. ;) Again, I have been searching for something like this but no luck. How can I get them?
