Prior to the 2003 models the OnStar unit used a standard GPS module (usually from Motorola, but others were also used) with a defined interface that could be tapped into, allowing you to take control of the GPS receiver for whatever purposes you wished. In my model-year 2003 unit the GPS receiver is integrated onto an OnStar circuit board and the defined interface appears to be history.
There are 4 connectors on the OnStar box. The two white connectors are used in my truck, and the two black connectors are unused. Does anybody here have a connection into GM to find out what these 2 unused connectors are for? I'm hoping to find some way to use the GPS receiver with a laptop. If I can't, when the one year "free" OnStar subscription expires, this thing becomes a $500+ boat anchor.
The box is made by Motorola. The "Assy Part No" is 15184769, and the "Base Part No" is 15184770.
