Stock receiver must go!!

I doubt I am the only one that has realized the stock receiver is weak. The upward pressure of the weight distributing bars is bending the reciever; so much so now that the welds on the tube are breaking loose. I realize that I put a little pressure on the system taking off a little over half of the 1000# hitch weight but the reciever should not bend! This same thing happened on my 00' and the warrented replacement did the same thing. Also the pin hole has become slightly out of round. This being said I am looking for a class V replacement and be done with it Any recommendations out there?

Two weeks ago i changed mine out for a Reese Titan class V hitch. the install was simple and the hitch is extremely well built. It is a little on the heavy side but it is strong, The olny drawback is that it has a 2 1/2" square opening. You can buy a 2 1/2" x 2" adapter to use your current drawbars. I needed a new drawbar so i just bought a new one. The hitch costs about 299.00 and the hitch bar was around 80.00.

Check out the Quick $ Easy receiver as well from www.unitedtruckparts.com it is an awesome hitch receiver it comes 2 ways either as a bolt on in place of the OEM or as an entire bumper. I had it installed at some farm supply place in Ohio I think farmers use them a lot. 14000# capacity and 1200# unequalized hitch weight.It is spring loaded as well to cushion the load when start and stop. The hitch also moves in and out and from left to right so you don't have to be dead on when you back up to the trailer.It costs $400 from the factory in Fort Wayne Indiana.Because this receiver is so substantial there will be no room for the spare tire underneath which suited me just fine so I used the crankhole in the bumper for the trailer electric plug-in which is a better place since I dip the hitch into the water sometimes when launching the boat. Stu, tell me about your Mor-Ryde, how do you like it? How much did it cost? Did it lower the truck any? How does it take the weight?

The Moryde tamed the ride considerably there are 3 settings for height the middle one is stock and then you can go up or down one inch. The price was around $600.
When a friend looked at it, he exclaimed: man they look like gigantic motor mounts, the whole setup replaces the rear springhangers and mounts.Load capacity is unchanged. I carry 135Gals of fuel in the bed and my trailer has about 1000# of hitch weight when we go on trips, it sure rides nice then. Stu

That's the way it comes. It was an easy
install. I used my floor jack to raise it up
to the frame and all 10 bolt holes lined up
exactly :D

I checked that website and I found the dead hitch weight was 1200# the same as Quick& Easy The equalized weight was 1200# as well. The nice part about the Q&E is that it is spring loaded and you can move the darn thing around when your not quite in the right place. But the SuperHitch is probably cheaper Stu

Is dead hitch weight & equalized weight the same
terminology for weight carrying and weigh distributing?

Hitches I've seen often show equalised weight being double than unequalised(dead weight)maybe in these HD hitches it is all the same.Some one will enlighten us.Stu

I put a Shurepull class V hitch on last year. It has 1200Lb capacity and is 2"x2". I could hold the stock hitch with one finger and it took both hands to lift the Shrepull. It may be over kill but at least I trust it in any use.

A lot of great info. I ended up going with a Draw-Tite Ultra Frame receiver rated at 1200/12000. A lot more steel compared to the wimpy stocker;it will be good!
