EGT probe best location for?

Going to be installing an Exhaust Gas Temp (EGT) gauge. Will need to install a probe for it. Have seen posts on locating in the exhaust manifold by tapping in threads or putting in the cross over pipe just under where it attaches to the drivers side exhaust manifold. So I am wondering what are the pro and cons of each location? I have yet to choose a specific gauge either. I will be getting boost and trans temp all so, therefore I am looking for info on which ones to go with. Mechanical or electric on the gauges?

I like JK's pre-turbo location, but I removed the fenderwell and did it on the opposide side of where he shows. It was cake that way.
