View Full Version : DS Fog Light Broke

I was relocating my temp sensor to have a better reading with the cover on and found the DS fog light flopping around. The plastic/fiber glass composite bracket had both screws pulled through. Some super glue and fender washers got it back together, but boy is that a cheap bracket.
Does anyone know of a good replacement set of fog lights that don't require a new air dam?
I also installed the dual remote bypass my wife got for me for Christmas. I got the bracket from Lube Specialists and that worked out really well. I mounted it with 3 bolts and one tap  (at least it is hard). Waiting on JK's exhaust to come in the big brown truck too.
When I was riding home Friday, I hit something in the road--I thought. Never saw anything in front of me, but the front and rear wheel hit something and I looked in my side window and saw something come out from under my truck. I was wondering if I should stop and check and kept thinking what could that have been. I couldn't think of anything that could have fallen off my truck.
Well, you probably guessed it by now, Sunday I noticed a wire hanging down where my fog light used to be. I looked up under there and no bracket or anything. So I went out to the road where I ran over this thing and sure enough I found my fog light on the side of the road. I must have barely clipped it as it wasn't beat up too bad, but the bracket had pulled through just as Chris mentioned.--Cheap!! It must be the cold weather. Hit a few bumps and the plastic must just break out. I'm headed for the dealership today to see if they will cover it under warranty.

While I still have both of my fog lights, the fog beams sure do bounce around on the road in front of you when going down dirt roads or other uneven surfaces.
I wish GM had spent another couple of bucks and made these brackets out of metal so that this would be a non-issue...

I made a metal bracket that mounts at the fog light adjustment screw and goes over to one of the bolts that the air damn mounts to...mine hardly move even on the worst roads. I don't have any pics b/c it is hard to get a good angle, but I will see what I can do.
It costs just a few bucks at Home Depot for flat iron (or zinc or aluminum...I don't remember which I used).
I grabbed in in the small welding section. I recommend marking your light height with tape on a wall or garage door before you start. It will make realigning much easier!
Update: The Dealer took care of the fog light with no questions. Said they had seen several broken like that.
Metal bracket seems like a good idea. As far as the bouncing, I have never been happy with the light pattern from the factory fog lights, so I never use them. I think I might put a safety wire on the lights to keep them from breaking off and going under the wheels. Especially since I'm only a few miles from being out of warranty.

Thanks for the tip SB, I'll look into doing just that.
