Hey Guys,
I sure could use some help. I have a 2002 GMC D/A crew cab 4x4 short box and I am going to replace my Michelin tires with 285\75\16 All terrain tires. I am looking at either the BF Goodrich KO's or the Bridgestone Revo's. I went on the tire rack .com and read some of the reviews. The stats on both tires show the Revos have a higher rating on every catagory for handling, ride, traction etc than the KO's. I tow at 22 ft enclosed trailer with atv's that weights in at about 7,000lbs when loaded and a 30 ft pull behind travel trailer when loaded weights in at about 9,000lbs. Can you give me any advice or real life experiences on either one of these tires. It's a big investment so I want to do it right the first time.
Thanks :D

I'm facing the same dilemma- to buy another set of BFG's or the Revos for winter duty. I've got a set of BFG's on my summer rims, but need a set of tires for the winter. I've read the reviews for the Revo's, and have been impressed. I hate to fix what isn't broken and end up with four "stinker" tires.
So far, the BFG's have been great- not too noisy, but you know they are there. I've got approximately 25-30K on them, and they just went below half tread with no excessive wear or chopping. They should go 45-50K without a problem. They need to be balanced yearly, but that's really the only complaint I have. I have not used these BFGs in the snow though. Lots of my friends have them and like them for winter duty. The BFG's also handle a heavy trailer well- no swaying or freakish traits like some tires have when loaded. Just nice and predictable.
Price is comparable between the two- about $165 per tire, so neither one has any advantages when it comes to price.
All opinions appreciated.

I have the 285x16 KO's & my dad just put on the Revo's on his Dodge. We both pull 5er toyhaulers.Mine is about 11000 &1800 pin wt.when loaded. His about 9500 & 1300 pin wt loaded.I have towed about 6000 mi with them, some towing off road with no problems. My dad had michilen before & likes the Revo's better, but he hasn't gone off-road yet.The Revo's seem quieter than the KO's which aren't bad anyway. The Revo's are new tech so they don't look like a regular A/T tire to me,but look like they will grip & clean pretty good.Either one will do good.Just my .02.
I have nothing but good things to say about my 285/75 Bridgestone REVO

How do the REVO's stick on ice?

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info. I knew I could count on ya. I got a quote on both and the Revo's were 30 less per tire then the BFGoodrich tire. Anybody else got any input keep it coming. Thanks again
SomnDmax- those are my worries as well about the stinker tire. You invest alot of bucks in a tire and then it doesn't do what it is supposed to.
HD Nate- thanks for the info it is defiitley pushing me towards the REVO's

Atv, for me and for you as well since we're in the snow belt, I'm most concerned about winter performance. It sucks getting stuck or having to worry about sliding into the ditch at any given moment without warning... Summer performance is a piece of cake for just about any tire. It's in winter that a tire's true potential or lack there of is tested.
FWIW, I'm leaning more and more towards the REVO's.

The more I think of it. I to am leaning towards the REVO's. I think I will take a ride to a Bridgestone dealer today and check out the tire. My son has the BFGoodrich KO's on his Jeep Wrangler Sport and he loves them so far but this will be his first winter with them. Did you check out Tire rack.com? You can compare both the BF and the Bridgestones. This is when I decieded to take a closer look at the REVO's.

I now have 22,000 miles on my 265 REVO'S and would recommend them. I found them too be great in snow last winter, decent in mud, and very quiet. There is about 1/2 the tread remaining and 75% of my milage is while towing 3K# to 8K#.

I live in western NY, home of the lake effect snow gun. 3 feet in 24 hours is not uncommon, I swear by the the BFG's for winter driving. They hold on to snow and ice well. Snow cleans out easily and I am very impressed. The BFG's are a great all around tire. A cross trainer for your truck.
These are not a hardcore mud tire, mud will load them up some.
I guess all else being equal these tires look more aggressive and have a square shoulder, they look nice on these trucks. Wear has been great, 40-60K on the 3 sets I've owned. The tire has a dual compound that slows the rate of wear as the miles climb. In the parking lot at work, half of the trucks wear these tires.
There may be better tires for mud, or towing, or wear, but these tires rock in the winter and overall do a very respectable job.

Hi everyone-
Yeah, my stock summer Steeltexes are almost done and in the spring will probably go Revos.
I've had excellent performance from Bridgestone Winter Duelers (the DM-Z2). If you're not towing anything in the winter (C load rating), you'd be hard put to find a better ice/slush tire. There are evenings where I was driving on 79 North out of Pittsburgh, and I was going steady while I counted something like 4 cars in the median....on their sides and roofs. The heavy siping just grips like crazy in icing conditions.
In Pittsburgh, I find that it's these small storms, or ones where it's changing from rain to sleet to snow, are the bad ones for driving. We rarely get huge snowfall here...knock on wood, if this weather pattern persists, this could be a bad one.
The wear is rapid, and the Blizzaks are 100% as "gooshy" as everyone says, but I'm still going when no one else can. I've had them on my cars too for several years now. Same results. Cheap insurance IMHO.
Regards, Mat

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the ongong input. I actually stopped and looked at the REVO's today at a firestone store and was quite impressed. My concern is if they are going to be a good all around tire for all year use for both cruising and/or towing.
maDMax990- I actually run the Blizzacks on my wife's 2002 Dodge grand caravan sport..and they are very reliable.
I guess the bottom line is when making this type of purchase I want to make sure it's the right one.
Hey 403 Turbo we are practically neighbors. I am from the capital district east of you. :D

I have to stand up for the BFG's also.
Put em on mid-winter last year to replace the **** OEM skateboard wheels(90% shot with 10,000 miles  )
Awesome winter tire, made plowing much more enjoyable smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
Got about 15,000 on em now, barely noticeable wear on the rears, no wear on fronts :D :D
Will be rotating before snow, which is supposed to be coming this weekend

How do you guys get more than 20k miles out of a set of tires?? I have a 95 burban (6.5TD) and have only had one set last more than 20k miles- those were the OEM steeltex R4S that sucked in the snow or mud. I used Bridgestones, BFG KO's, Goodyear Wranglers, Firestones, etc. Nothing lasts-- seems the truck is too heavy and just wears them out. How in the heck do you get a diesel truck to wear tires for 40k miles or more? (Yes, we do rotate every 5k miles). Getting tired of buying a set of tires every year.
Most people run them too soft. 75 front, 80 rear on my work trucks, 70 front, 75 rear on mine. If you air down to get a cushy ride, you'll pay the price, at least with the Firestones.
Ty
Get some Sport King AT's. I got 285's on my truck. They are a knock off of BFG and any BFG dealer can get or has them. Almost the same as a KO. I always get 55-60K out of every set. Been using them since 93'. My 285's were $93 bucks a tire too. Much better than a KO.

Thanks Mav,
I am having a set put on Friday morning. I stopped at my tire guy and told him I wanted a good tire but did not want to spend a fortune. He hooked me up with a set of Sport King tires. And thanks to everybody who replied to this topic, your help and advice was very much appreciated. :D :D :D ;)
Glad to hear you got some. Awesome all weather tires.
