Does anyone happen to know if there is a power hook up under the dash for a CB unit, like a plug or a particular terminal at the fuse block, should I use the radio and cassette circuit????????

any input would be appreciated.

thanks

The correct place is directly to the battery. I know it's a pain but the is what GM states in an installation manual that I have. The electrical system in a vehicle is a very noisy (electrical noise) system. The battery does a very good job of removing most of the noise spikes that are generated during the normal operation of the vehicle. When you run the wire through the firewall be sure to protect the wire using a rubber grommet. Since the power source is the battery you need to put a fuse at the battery end of the wire to protect the wire in case it shorts to ground. I know that is not what you wanted to hear but it is the best location. I have used the common tie point between the batteries; you know the red box that can be used to jump-start the "other guys" trucks. :D It's only a few inches from one of the batteries and you don't have to be concerned about battery leakage causing problems with the radio wire.

George,
Can you please follow-up a little more on your discuusion about CBs capability to filter out diesel engine injection noise, from previos post in another thread on CB radios.
Specifically which radios block this noise and/or what specification and values should you look for to do this? Planning to purchase a CB and would like it to work wo/ this noise.

thanks,

I plugged mine in at the 3 plug power center below the HVAC controls. No noise. Be sure the antenna ground shield is intact & properly connected, as this is the most likely source of engine noise.

I agree with your post that the battery is the best connection, but I would use coax cable with the center conductor as the(+)connection and the copper shield as the(

I put in an add a circuit in the fuse box on the drivers side. I also but in a noise filter from Radio Shack (had it already) tried it with and without and with was the way to go. I have run lots of lines from the battery for the cell phone and alarm, so drilling holes is not a problem. I just wanted it to be ignition controlled. Just my 0.02.

Hey Dawg,

I had my Uniden PC66 mounted on the panel below the acc. power outlets. Take the 2 screws out at the bottom and wiggle the panel left to right and pull and the tabs at the top will come free. I drilled holes for my CB bracket at the very bottom of the panel and mounted it with 2 small bolts. Replace the center panel by installing the top tabs first then replace your screws and mount your radio to the bracket. My holes for the bracket were very close to the bottom so when I removed it the holes cannot be seen.

Dawg,
I mounted my Cobra 29 in the same spot, but I found that it was to low mounting it the way Maverick did (because of the CB's size).

I removed the panel below the 12v points and then made a 2" bracket that uses the same two holes that the panel I removed used. I then mounted the CB bracket to it. It now sits just below the 12v outlets.

I'll take a picture and post it.

I mounted my cobra 29 on a pedestal mount that I bought at CHICKEN LIPS here in sacramento. It mounts to the floor board right beneath the power plugs and it is adjustable in height and it pivots.I had to drill 3 small holes through the carpet and where the screws come throgh on the bottom I just put a dab of silicone on each one for moisture control.. I have pic's of it if anyone would like to see.I just do not know how to up load them on this site. I can e-mail them

Well I got the cobra 29 installed made an aluminium bracket that slides into the CD holder, the CB sits in front at about 20 degree angle, can still use the cup holders, took the feed from the common battery terminal with fuse protection, twisted the ground and pos. to reduce noise pick up. Mounted a 4' wilson antenna on opposite side to radio antenna.

Thanks for the input

The Add-a-circuit is made by Bussmann, Part Number BP/HHH. Should be available at your local parts dealer. I paid $7.95 at local parts house. I understand NAPA has then with their name on them, but get considerably more. They sure make it easy to tap in to the fuse block

DL,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I picked up mine at Autozone for around $6. They have both mini and regular sizes. The panel on the left of the steering wheel is mini. I used one for my high idle too.
