View Full Version : Halogen Back-Up Light Bulbs?

Back in the day on my '90 Chevy, the "thing to do" was add Halogen back-up light bulbs. I did, and haven't had to replace them yet! From what I remember, they were noticably brighter than the OEM non-halogen type.

Is this still an option on the '04's?

I see talk about headlight boosters, but nothing at all about the back-up light bulbs. Maybe because the older C/K light fixtures weren't as efficient? As I really don't have any complaints about the '04's light output, but.....brighter is always better, right?

I put the halogens in my old '92 as well. They seemed to work okay. Never had to replace one because it burned out. I haven't tried them in the '02 yet.

I have 50 watt halogen back-up bulbs in my '01. Effectively doubles(250% advantage over stock bulb is the claim) rear light without aux. back-up lights. Very Very pleased ;)

They work even better with my Euro tails, because the back-up portion is really clear. See the pics

Hey Guys,
Where are you getting your Halogen bulbs? I haven't looked yet, but I don't remember seeing such things in the parts stores.

It should just be a 3157 type but IIRC, the Halogen bulbs (the glass part) were significantly smaller than a standard 3157.

I searched and here is what I found:

To confirm that this should be the correct part, this link says so:

I am going to order a set. Hopefully it will be an improvement verse stock bulbs. :D

Lawnboy, if I am not mistaken, they use 3156 bulbs instead of 3157. ;)

I was just going on what the owners manual said. 3157's are simply a dual filament (stop/turn) type and when they're in a backup fixture, only the "highs" work. A 3156 is a single filament bulb.

Thanks for the links.
