I have used 2-3 different types of blue bulbs and super whites 65-80 watts .Each one will last approx,2-3 months before they burn out .the element just breaks in center, anybody else have this problem .I like the 80 watt bulbs but I need something that is reliable.
Thanks steve

2DAMAX,

I've had great luck with Sylvania Silverstars. They're give off a really clean white light.

I've had really good luck with the Phillips Rally series. I tried Hella and regretted it. Now back to Phillips again.

I just rec'd my Philips "Premium" bulbs but only had time to install them on the drivers side this morning. They appear identical to the '03 stock bulbs except these say PR on their coding. They are 55w and 65w (low/high) DOT, exactly as the stock bulbs. Philips claims:

1. Why do Philips Premium bulbs give more light?

The secret of the Premium bulb is the specially designed filament, which glows at a higher temperature. The light emitted is thus brighter and consequently gives 30% more light on the road.

In driving home tonight with these on the driver's side only and stock on passenger, in both low and high beam use I couldn't really perceive a difference between the 2 sides going down dark country roads. Perhaps that's not a fair test but it left me wondering if I'm just replacing Premiums with Premiums? If so, I could have gone around the corner to the dealer and paid a lot less than mail order...

Most all of this is "fuzzy math" IMHO. I'd be surprised if the DOT requirements did not regulate lumens as a true measure of light output...

My GM p/n for replacements is: 1999366

Anyone know if this is the Philips "Premium" bulb or is it another type of Philips bulb?

If it's the Premium, then I just wasted a hundred...should have gone with the Rally's in that case...

I have had a headlight booster kit with the phillips rally 70/100 in for about two weeks, got it from the local diesel shop (DSG Saskatoon, one of the DP advertisers, ask for Trent, he's a great guy) and I could not be happier. In fact, I would recomend this as the first mod a new truck owner should do. Super white, great lumens. Superior to the factory equipment.

As an added bonus my lights don't flicker with a small drop in voltage anymore. Before the install, when the BASS hits hard on my stereo the factory head lights would dim  , not anymore. The voltage has increased and added loads don't effect the lights. The all four on option is sweet, lights up the sky/road/ditches. :D

Oh ya, the lights are around $20 can a piece

cheers

Just to update, I put the passenger side Philips premium's in on the weekend and this evening driving home I did notice a difference. Definately seemed brighter although I couldn't seem to note this with only one side done.

Also had a car flick their high beams at me. I'll take that as further proof. I would guess these bulbs are about the same as the silverstar's.

Big blue,
How do you like D.S.G.'s headlight harness? I've been thinking about ordering some. Yes I agree, Trent is a nice guy. Met him at this years rendezvous. tpitt

Bearman,

Their number is 306-242-7644, IMO don't talk to anyone but Trent Millard. Make sure to tell him your on the DP. They carry the juice, additives, exhausts, gauges blah blah blah......

I am going to be in Lacombe AB over Xmas if that helps with delivery.

tpitt,

I am happy with the harness. It appears well made with heavier gauge wires, Bosch relays and factory connectors. One complaint is the cheezy connection for the "four lights on" option. It is a raw diode that you stick into the unused factory high and low beam connectors. It is covered with a piece of hose, and then wrapped with electrical tape. I believe the JK harnness has a pre-made housing with the diode in it that you connect the factory connections to. Not a big deal but a little weak IMO. My lights are great and no voltage drops. The install is a bit tricky as there is just enough length to connect directly to the bat boost post. I also added an inline fuse for the power. (about three bucks and greatly needed protection) It does comes with post extenders for the batteries but that was going to be a PITA. I can give you a complete run down on the install if you like. The directions are crap but it is fairly easy. Finding places to run things and mount the relays is the trick.
