Just installed the Lund cold front last week. So far I'm very happy with it. Easy to put on, warms up faster, and doesn't overheat when temps are close to 60!! Looks good too!! Sure beats messing with the Bra from the factory!! :D

Carli_max or Kennedy. Where did you order your Lund Cold Front from? I only drive 13 miles to work and the engine and transmission never does get to near normal operating temperatures. So this Lund cold front might be just the thing for me. Thanks for any information.

I ordered my from my dealer, but just go to LUND's website, and they should have a list of dealers.
http://www.lundlook.com/ I'll try to get a picture and post it. It covers the whole grill area and is nicely cut out around the 'GMC' emblem.

Thanks Carli_max, I went to the Lund site, but it wouldn't let me order anything or give me a dealer close to me. Maybe the site is down, I'll try it later. But thanks for your reply.

I have a billet insert in my grill. I called Lund's tech support number to ask them if there stainless coldfront would fit in a grill with a billet insert and they told me it would not. Does anyone know if the insert could be easily fabricated to lock into a my grill? Thanks. Dave

I ordered my Lund SS cold front from Kennedy, give him a call and he'll take care of you.

Hammer Down,

The Lund SS Fronts (cold front or screen front) are held in place by small plastic headed knurled bolts that screw into a flat, shallow 'U' bracket. The black plastic knurled end of the bolt is visible looking at the Lund fronts. The shallow 'U' bracket straddles a single section of the waffle grill. There are 4 bolts/brackets for each section of the Lund front (4 for the top section and 4 for the bottom section = 8 total). Easy to install/remove.

Here's a pic of the knurled end of the bolt - my digital camera doesn't do well with close-ups. I'll try and remember to get a pic of the bolt/bracket.

You may be able to decide whether it will work with your billet grill insert.

ON EDIT: Or click on the KD Ehaust/Big Wheels link in my sig and choose the Lund album.

mdrag,

Thanks for the input, a pic of the u bolt would be very helpful. It's gettin cold up here in the north land and I got to get the big D ready for winter. Thanks again. By the way what are all the switches for in the counsel. They look preety cool, also sweet looking wheels. They really set the truck off.

At what outside temperature is it recommended that a cold front be used highway driving? Also did not see a Lund SS cold front for 03' GMC at their web site.
thanks, ;)

Hammer Down,

Below the pictures of the switches is a brief narrative describing the switch functions.

LEFT to RIGHT: PIAA fog lights; SPA DG-111 Boost/EGT gauge ON/OFF; Power Inverter ON/OFF; 5th gear lockout (with BLUE LED indicator at rear of insert); High idle switch; Courtesy lights ON/OFF

I should be able to get a pic or two of the LUND mounting hardware later tonight.

Stage 1,

I left my LUND cold front on through the winter until the weather was consistently warmer. Even with temps in the 60's I did not see too high water or tranny temps. OK usually has mild winter temps...

IIRC, I believe Maverick was using a LUND screen front all year round in Alaska and felt that was sufficient.

Mdrag,

Expect to receive our new truck this week or very soon and have planned a trip later this month to break it in after it has 1000 mile on it pulling trailer and race car ( C/SA) home for storage this winter. The idea is to get the Duramax heated up pulling 12,000 lbs.enclosed 32' trailer/car, which includes driving interstate 64 throught the mountains of WV. The outside temp will likely be between 60 and 35 degrees. Do not plan on running it real hard this trip just giving it a real good load to break it in towing. Should I install the cold front for this trip?
thanks,

Hammer Down,

I just uploaded pics of the LUND bracket and bolts - it may a few minutes for them to show up on the Webshots site. Choose the KD Exhaust or Big Wheels link in my sig, then the LUND album. The approx dimensions are listed below the pictures.

Stage 1,

With the temps you are expecting, I would not think the cold front would be necessary. It sounds like you will be using the factory cold front. I would suggest fitting the grill portion and leaving the bumper part off. On the Chevys, the grill portion of the cold front unsnaps easily - and can be put on/taken off in a few minutes - I'm not familiar with the GMC set-up. You could leave it in the truck and put it on if the temps are lower than expected.

IIRC, the owner's manual or diesel supplement may offer guidelines on when to use the cold front.
