Hi
I am rather new posting here but been lurking to find answers to my swap. I am swapping a 1999 6.5 TD into a 1980 scout II. i have decided to put a 700R4 trans behind it and would like to know how to handle the tv cable hookup. The motor is a late model with a reprogrammed ECM to run things, but i am unsure of how to setup the trans to work best with it. there will be very little towing if ever done. I used the 700R4 because it will/can bolt up to my scout D300 with an AA adapter.

Actually, you'll just need a bracket from a 6.2 diesel to put a TH700 behind your 6.5 to handle the detent cable. To control TC lockup you'll need TPS control off a 6.2, or a manual switch.

Here is a bracket off ebay that will do exactly what you need, or you can search your local bone yard! You'll look for a bracket from an 82 through 91 model 6.2L 1/2 ton that was equipped with the TH700.

Detent Bracket 700R4 on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7934514393)

I don't think that will work on a '99 model.

It will have an electronic pump (drive by wire). The best option would be to install (fabricate) a TV cable bracket that mounts on the firewall and connects to the acc. pedal. That is the last stop of mechanical input to the pump. There are electronic solutions, but they are expensive and not very reliable.

Use a 4L80, or switch to MFI before you get too invested in the project.

Doh, oh yeah drive by wire, I should learn to pay more attention. I think the best route as suggested would be to convert to MFI or figure a way to get the 4L80E to work. Without a throttle cable the bracket or kick down won't work at all.
